Carboplatin Treatment Options in Alabama

This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will evaluate the efficacy and safety of carboplatin/paclitaxel and carboplatin/paclitaxel/bevacizumab with and without pictilisib in particpants with previously untreated advanced or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Particpants will be randomized to receive 4 cycles of carboplatin (C)/paclitaxel (P) and either pictilisib or placebo, with (participants with non-squamous NSCLC) or without (participants with squamous NSCLC) bevacizumab (B). Anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression or intolerable toxicity occurs. Participants in placebo arms with disease progression may cross over to open-label active pictilisib. This is a study to determine the optimal treatment for patients with advanced stage or recurrent endometrial cancer. Traditionally, patients have been treated with either hormonal therapies (megesterol) or chemotherapy (paclitaxel and carboplatin). This study investigates the effectiveness of the combination of hormonal therapy and chemotherapy. This randomized phase III trial is studying glutathione to see how well it works in preventing peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin in patients with ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, and/or primary peritoneal cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Chemoprotective drugs, such as glutathione, may help prevent peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin. It is not yet known whether glutathione is more effective than a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy. Read Less

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Exisulind may make tumor cells more sensitive to chemotherapy. Combining chemotherapy with exisulind may kill more tumor cells. This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of RO5490258 (MetMab) in combination with either of two backbone chemotherapy regimens in the first-line setting in patients with incurable Stage IIIB or IV non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer. In Cohort 1, patients will be randomized to receive 4 cycles of bevacizumab (Avastin) 15 mg/kg iv, paclitaxel 200 mg/m2 iv, platinum (cisplatin/carboplatin) iv plus either MetMab 15 mg/kg iv or placebo on Day 1 of each 21-day cycle.
