This trial studies the side effects of pembrolizumab with or without chemotherapy in treating patients with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer that has come back (recurrent) and has spread to other places in the body (advanced). This study will compare the effectiveness of osimertinib alone with the combination of osimertinib and chemotherapy (carboplatin and pemetrexed) in people with metastatic lung cancer that has a change (mutation) in the gene EGFR. Osimertinib alone is the usual treatment for metastatic EGFR-mutant lung cancer. Researchers think adding chemotherapy to osimertinib could possibly add to the anticancer effects of the usual treatment and help stop cancer from growing or spreading.

The purpose of this study is to find out what effects (good and/or bad) Pirfenidone combined with standard first-line chemotherapy will have on you and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The investigational drug Pirfenidone is being combined with standard chemotherapy in participants with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Pirfenidone is approved to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) but it isn't currently approved to treat non-small cell lung cancer.
