Anal cancer is a relatively uncommon disease and there is currently no standard chemotherapy treatment for patients with inoperable locally recurrent or metastatic disease. The aim of this phase II study is compare two well known and largely used chemotherapy regimens - Cisplatin plus 5-fluorouracil vs Carboplatin plus Paclitaxel. RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known if carboplatin is more effective with or without liposomal doxorubicin in treating recurrent ovarian epithelial or primary peritoneal cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of carboplatin with or without liposomal doxorubicin in treating patients who have recurrent ovarian epithelial or primary peritoneal cancer. This randomized phase III trial studies carboplatin, paclitaxel, and sorafenib tosylate to see how well they work compared to carboplatin and paclitaxel in treating patients with stage III or stage IV melanoma that cannot be removed by surgery. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Sorafenib tosylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. It is not yet known whether giving carboplatin and paclitaxel together with sorafenib tosylate is more effective than carboplatin and paclitaxel in treating melanoma. Read Less

It is not yet known which regimen of chemotherapy plus autologous stem cell transplantation with or without isotretinoin is more effective in treating recurrent high-grade glioma. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying high-dose chemotherapy or intermediate-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation to see how well it works compared to high-dose chemotherapy or intermediate-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation and isotretinoin in treating young patients with recurrent high-grade glioma. The purpose of this study is to determine the safety, tolerability and efficacy of combretastatin A4 phosphate (CA4P), also known as fosbretabulin, in combination with bevacizumab (Avastin), carboplatin and paclitaxel in patients with chemotherapy naïve non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This is a randomized parallel arm study. All participants will receive carboplatin, paclitaxel and bevacizumab, and half will additionally receive CA4P. Patients who complete the first 6 cycles of therapy and have not experienced disease progression will receive maintenance therapy with bevacizumab alone or with bevacizumab plus CA4P. The rationale for this study is the potential additive or synergistic actions of vascular disrupting agents like CA4P with anti-angiogenic agents like bevacizumab. Read Less
