RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving a chemotherapy drug before surgery may shrink the tumor so that it is no longer present by conventional imaging and tumor markers from serum and cerebrospinal fluid. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more tumor cells. Combining different types of therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This Phase II trial is studying how well neoadjuvant chemotherapy with or without surgery and with or without high dose chemotherapy and peripheral stem cell transplantation, can increase response rates prior to radiation therapy and increase progression free and overall surviving patients with newly diagnosed intracranial germ cell tumors. This randomized pilot phase II trial studies how well molecular phenotyping works in predicting response in patients with stage IB-III esophageal cancer who are receiving carboplatin and paclitaxel or oxaliplatin, leucovorin calcium, and fluorouracil. Studying the genes in a patients tumor cells before and after chemotherapy may help in understanding if there are specific features of the tumor cells that make a person more or less likely to respond to treatment and how these features may be affected by treatment. Pazopanib will be given with TAXOL in one part, in another part pazopanib will be given with TAXOL and PARAPLATIN, and in a third part pazopanib will be given with TAXOL and lapatinib (patients separated in each part). Toxicity monitoring will enable us to find the largest dose of pazopanib daily that can be safely given in combination with the chemotherapy agents TAXOL and PARAPLATIN, and with lapatinib, as well as what side effects are likely to manifest when these agents are given together and whether the combination of pazopanib with chemotherapy, helps to treat different types of cancer. Another objective is to find out how much pazopanib, TAXOL, PARAPLATIN and lapatinib are in the blood at specific times after the agents are given. This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will evaluate the efficacy and safety of carboplatin/paclitaxel and carboplatin/paclitaxel/bevacizumab with and without pictilisib in particpants with previously untreated advanced or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Particpants will be randomized to receive 4 cycles of carboplatin (C)/paclitaxel (P) and either pictilisib or placebo, with (participants with non-squamous NSCLC) or without (participants with squamous NSCLC) bevacizumab (B). The purpose of this study is to find out whether the addition of a drug called Avastin (avastin) to the two-drug combination of carboplatin and paclitaxel shrinks tumors better than the two-drug combination alone in the treatment of endometrial cancer. Avastin is a humanized monoclonal antibody (a type of protein that is normally made by the immune system to help defend the body from infection and cancer) produced by Genentech, Inc. Avastin is an antibody directed against vascular endothelial growth factor, or VEGF. VEGF is a potent, specific growth factor with a well defined role in normal and abnormal blood vessel formation. It is present in a wide variety of normal tissues, but is produced in excess by most solid cancers (tumors).
