Carboplatin Treatment Options in Tennessee

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, carboplatin work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. It is not yet known whether high-dose radiation therapy is more effective than standard-dose radiation therapy when given together with combination chemotherapy with or without cetuximab in treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying high-dose or standard-dose radiation therapy given together with chemotherapy with or without cetuximab to see how well they work in treating patients with newly diagnosed stage III non-small cell lung cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. This trial will look at 2 different drug combinations that have well known safety profiles and are known to be active against non small cell lung cancer and combine them with bevacizumab, an experimental drug that has shown effectiveness when added to other drug combinations for advanced non-small cell lung cancer. The primary objective in this study is to see how well this combination of drugs keeps the cancer from getting worse in this elderly population of non-small cell lung cancer patients. Read Less

This randomized phase III trial compares two different high-dose chemotherapy regimens followed by a stem cell transplant in treating younger patients with high-risk neuroblastoma. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving combination chemotherapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Giving these treatments before a peripheral blood stem cell transplant helps kill any tumor cells that are in the body and helps make room in the patient?s bone marrow for new blood-forming cells (stem cells) to grow. After treatment, stem cells are collected from the patient's blood and stored. High-dose chemotherapy and radiation therapy is then given to prepare the bone marrow for the stem cell transplant. The stem cells are then returned to the patient to replace the blood-forming cells that were destroyed by the high- chemotherapy. It is not yet known which regimen of high-dose chemotherapy is more effective for patients with high-risk neuroblastoma undergoing a peripheral blood stem cell transplant. Read Less

This was a study to investigate the potential clinical benefit of trilaciclib (G1T28) in preserving the bone marrow and the immune system, and enhancing chemotherapy antitumor efficacy when administered prior to carboplatin and gemcitabine (GC therapy) for participants with metastatic triple negative breast cancer. The study was an open-label and 102 participants were randomly assigned (1:1:1 fashion) to 1 of the 3 following treatment groups: * Group 1: GC therapy (Days 1 and 8 of 21-day cycles) only (n=34) * Group 2: GC therapy (Days 1 and 8) plus trilaciclib (G1T28) on Days 1 and 8 of 21-day cycles (n=33) * Group 3: GC therapy (Days 2 and 9) plus trilaciclib (G1T28) on Days 1, 2, 8, and 9 of 21-day cycles (n=35) The study included 3 study phases: Screening Phase, Treatment Phase, and Survival Follow-up Phase. This trial is designed to study the role of docetaxel/gemcitabine, an active and relatively non-toxic combination in advanced NSCLC. This study will help to better define optimal preoperative regimens for patients with resectable NSCLC. Since both of these drugs are potent radio-sensitizers, the concurrent use with radiation therapy at these weekly doses may produce not only radio-sensitization, but also considerable antitumor efficacy. This pilot clinical trial studies the side effects and the best way to give vorinostat with isotretinoin and combination chemotherapy and to see how well they work in treating younger patients with embryonal tumors of the central nervous system. Vorinostat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as isotretinoin, vincristine sulfate, cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, and etoposide phosphate, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving vorinostat with isotretinoin and combination chemotherapy may be an effective treatment for embryonal tumors of the central nervous system. A peripheral blood stem cell transplant may be able to replace blood-forming cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy. This may allow more chemotherapy to be given so that more tumor cells are killed. Read Less

The rationale for this multicenter, phase II trial is to examine the impact of carboplatin/paclitaxel with bevacizumab in the preoperative treatment of patients with stage IB (\> 4.0 cm), II, and select stage III NSCLC.
