RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known which regimen of chemotherapy is more effective in treating stage IIIB, stage IV, or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of polyglutamate paclitaxel plus carboplatin to that of paclitaxel plus carboplatin in treating patients who have stage IIIB, stage IV, or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer. The goal of this clinical research study is to learn about how effective 2 chemotherapy drugs carboplatin (Paraplatin) plus docetaxel (Taxotere) in the treatment of patients with anaplastic prostate cancer. Patients who continue to have advanced disease will be switched to etoposide (VePesid) plus cisplatin (Platinol-AQ) to study how effective this second line of chemotherapy is in the treatment of patients iwth anaplastic prostate cancer. Phase III, randomized, open-label, multi-center study of nab-paclitaxel with best supportive care (BSC) or BSC alone as maintenance treatment after response or stable disease (SD) with nab-paclitaxel plus carboplatin as induction in subjects with stage IIIB/IV squamous cell NSCLC. Subjects who discontinued treatment from the maintenance part for any reason other than withdrawal of consent, lost to follow-up, or death, were entered into a Follow-up period that had a visit 28 days after progression or discontinuation. RATIONALE: Bortezomib may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as dexamethasone, ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as rituximab, can block cancer growth in different ways. Some block the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread. Others find cancer cells and help kill them or carry cancer-killing substances to them. It is not yet known whether giving bortezomib together with combination chemotherapy is more effective with or without rituximab in treating AIDS-related non-Hodgkin lymphoma. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying giving bortezomib together with dexamethasone, ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide to see how well it works with or without rituximab in treating patients with relapsed or refractory AIDS-related non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The goal of this clinical research study is to find the highest tolerable dose of vemurafenib that can be given in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel patients with advanced cancer. The safety of the study drug combination will also be studied. Vemurafenib is designed to block a protein (called mutated BRAF) that is only found in moles (spots) of the skin and certain types of cancer cells. This drug may slow the growth of or kill these cells. Carboplatin is designed to slow the growth of cancer cells by stopping them from making new DNA (the genetic material of cells).
