Dexamethasone Treatment Options in New Jersey

The purpose of this study is to see if researchers could get the same good results with less toxicity by using this new approach. We already know that the three drugs bortezomib, lenalidomide, and dexamethasone given together at the same time are effective. Most physicians therefore treat patients with multiple myeloma with the 3 drug combination. However, the researchers also know that the three drugs given together result in more side effects than when only 2 drugs (bortezomib and dexamethasone or lenalidomide and dexamethasone) are given. The researchers believe that all patients may not necessarily need the three drugs to have good results. In this study, the researchers will first treat your disease with bortezomib and dexamethasone. If the disease is not well controlled with these 2 drugs, only then the third drug, lenalidomide, will be added. By using this sequential approach we may reach the same good results with fewer side effects. Read Less

This partially randomized phase II trial studies how well brentuximab vedotin or crizotinib and combination chemotherapy works in treating patients with newly diagnosed stage II-IV anaplastic large cell lymphoma. Brentuximab vedotin is a monoclonal antibody, called brentuximab, linked to a toxic agent called vedotin. Brentuximab attaches to CD30 positive cancer cells in targeted way and delivers vedotin to kill them. Crizotinib and methotrexate may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. It is not yet known whether brentuximab vedotin and combination chemotherapy is more effective than crizotinib and combination chemotherapy in treating anaplastic large cell lymphoma. Read Less

This randomized phase III trial is studying low-dose vincristine to see how well it works compared with high-dose vincristine when given together with different combination chemotherapy regimens in treating young patients with intermediate-risk relapsed B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies such as rituximab can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Colony-stimulating factors such as filgrastim may increase the numbers of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help a person's immune system recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. Combining chemotherapy with rituximab and filgrastim may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining rituximab with chemotherapy and filgrastim in treating patients who have Burkitt's lymphoma or Burkitt's leukemia. Read Less

This trial will study how safely the tazemetostat works with other therapies in various hematological malignancies. Hematologic malignancies are cancers that most often begin in the bone marrow or lymph nodes where blood precursors are produced. They are often called blood cancers and fall into three categories: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Tazemetostat has been found to be a safe and effective drug that works in patients with follicular lymphoma where the disease has come back after treatment (known as relapsed) and when other treatment no longer works (known as refractory). Combining tazemetostat with other treatments may work better in treating patients with hematological malignancies and may improve disease response and durability of response. Read Less

Combining chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more cancer cells. Monoclonal antibodies, such as rituximab, can locate cancer cells and either kill them or deliver cancer-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. Giving rituximab as maintenance therapy after stem cell transplantation may kill any remaining cancer cells. It is not yet known which salvage chemotherapy regimen is more effective before autologous stem cell transplantation in treating relapsed or refractory non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying salvage chemotherapy using dexamethasone, cisplatin, and gemcitabine to see how well it works compared to dexamethasone, cisplatin, and cytarabine given before autologous stem cell transplantation in treating patients with relapsed or refractory aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This trial also is studying giving rituximab as maintenance therapy to see how well it works compared to no further therapy after stem cell transplantation. This is an open-label, Phase II, single center trial of pembrolizumab (MK-3475), lenalidomide and dexamethasone in subjects with high risk Multiple Myeloma (hrMM) post high-dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). The investigators seek to assess the effect of pre-operative and continued post-operative corticosteroid use on pain, patient preference, visual outcomes, and change in objective quantifiable biological parameters in patients undergoing bilateral cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implantation with or without baseline ocular surface disease. Patient's first eye scheduled for surgery will receive an intracanalicular insertion of DEXTENZA (dexamethasone release profile of QID, TID, BID, QD, over 30 days; study eye). The fellow-eye will receive topical prednisolone acetate 1% (tapering schedule of QID, TID, BID, QD over 30 days). RATIONALE: Epoetin alfa may stimulate red blood cell production and may help improve cancer-related anemia and fatigue. Steroid therapy with dexamethasone may increase the effectiveness of epoetin alfa. It is not yet known if epoetin alfa is more effective with or without dexamethasone in treating anemia-related fatigue in patients with prostate cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying epoetin alfa and dexamethasone to see how well they work compared to epoetin alfa alone in treating anemia-related fatigue in patients with prostate cancer that is refractory to treatment with hormone therapy.
