Dexamethasone Treatment Options in Texas

The goal of this clinical research study is to find the highest tolerable dose of nivolumab that can be give in combination with idarubicin and cytarabine in patients with MDS and AML. The safety and effectiveness of this drug combination will also be studied. This is an investigational study. Nivolumab is not FDA-approved or commercially available. Idarubicin is FDA-approved and commercially available for the treatment of patients with AML. Cytarabine is FDA approved and commercially available for treatment of patient with AML. The use of these drugs in combination is investigational. The study doctor can explain how the drugs are designed to work. Up to 75 patients will take part in this study. The goal of this clinical research study is to find the highest safe dose of AMG 531 that can be given to treat thrombocytopenia (low platelet counts) in patients who have received chemotherapy. Researchers will also look at the safety and effectiveness of AMG 531. Primary Objectives: 1. To determine the clinical safety and tolerability of AMG 531 administered following chemotherapy (R-HyperCVAD alternating with R-Ara-C/MTX) in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. 2. To determine an optimal biologic dose (OBD) of AMG 531 in patients receiving R-HyperCVAD and R-Ara-C/MTX. 3. To evaluate the effects of AMG 531 on the degree and duration of thrombocytopenia and platelet recovery following chemotherapy(chemo). Secondary Objectives: 1. To evaluate limited pharmacokinetics of AMG 531 administered by S.C. route with chemotherapy. Read Less

This randomized phase III trial compares ixazomib citrate, lenalidomide, dexamethasone and zoledronic acid with zoledronic acid alone to see how well they work when given after radiation therapy in treating patients with solitary plasmacytoma of bone. Ixazomib citrate may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Lenalidomide may help the immune system kill abnormal blood cells or cancer cells. Dexamethasone is a drug used in chemotherapy that may cause tumor cells to die. Zoledronic acid may prevent bone fractures and reduce bone pain, and may also improve survival. Standard treatment for this cancer is radiation therapy alone. It is not yet known whether ixazomib citrate, lenalidomide, dexamethasone and zoledronic acid or zoledronic acid alone is more effective, and whether adding these treatments after radiation therapy is more effective than radiation therapy alone in treating patients with solitary plasmacytoma of bone. The purpose of this study is to compare the effects, good and/or bad, of a standard chemotherapy regimen for AML that includes the drugs daunorubicin and cytarabine combined with or without midostaurin (also known as PKC412), to find out which is better. This research is being done because it is unknown whether the addition of midostaurin to chemotherapy treatment is better than chemotherapy treatment alone. Midostaurin has been tested in over 400 patients and is being studied in a number of illnesses, including AML, colon cancer, and lung cancer. Midostaurin blocks an enzyme, produced by a gene known as FLT3, that may have a role in the survival and growth of AML cells. Not all leukemia cells will have the abnormal FLT3 gene. This randomized phase II trial studies how well rolapitant hydrochloride works in preventing nausea/vomiting in patients with sarcoma receiving chemotherapy. This phase I/II trial studies the side effects and the best dose of pomalidomide when given together with dexamethasone and filgrastim-sndz and to see how well they work in treating patients with multiple myeloma that has returned or that does not respond to treatment. Pomalidomide may stimulate or suppress the immune system in different ways and may stop cancer cells from growing. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as dexamethasone, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Colony-stimulating factors, such as filgrastim-sndz, may increase the production of red and white blood cells and may help the immune system recover from the side effects of pomalidomide and/or dexamethasone. Giving pomalidomide together with dexamethasone and filgrastim-sndz may work better in treating patients with multiple myeloma. Read Less
