Arsenic Trioxide, Thalidomide, Dexamethasone, and Ascorbic Acid in Treating Patients With Relapsed or Refractory Multiple Myeloma
Terminated
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as arsenic trioxide, dexamethasone, and ascorbic acid, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more cancer cells. Sometimes when chemotherapy is given, it does not stop the growth of cancer cells. The cancer is said to be resistant to chemotherapy. Giving arsenic trioxide together with chemotherapy may reduce d... Read More

Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis Clinical Trial (FSGS-CT)
Completed
The FSGS Clinical Trial is a multi-center, prospective, controlled, open label randomized trial designed to determine if treatment with mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in conjunction with pulse steroids is superior to treatment with Cyclosporine-A (CSA) in inducing remission from proteinuria over 12 months.

Corticosteroid Injection for Common Upper Extremity Problems
Completed
The purpose of the study is to compare the effectiveness of a steroid injection to a placebo (inactive substance) in the treatment of lateral elbow pain, deQuervain's tendonitis, or base of the thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis. We are also trying to identify which personality factors and mindsets influence perceptions of elbow, wrist and hand pain. We hope to enroll 213 subjects in this study.

Study of KIR-Ligand Mismatched Haplo-Identical Natural Killer Cells Transfused Before Autologous Stem Cell Transplant
Completed
The purpose of this study is to induce anti-myeloma responses in patients with high risk or relapsed myeloma using combination chemo- and immunotherapy comprising sequentially: 1) lymphoid and myeloid suppressive conditioning, 2) adoptive transfer of purified KIR-ligand mismatched Natural Killer cells from a haplo-identical donor, and 3) autografting two weeks after infusion of NK cells to ensure autologous reconstitution. Other objectives include establishing the response rate, disease free sur... Read More

Post Operative Sore Throat and Dexamethasone
Completed
Sore throat is a common postoperative complaint that can lead to morbidity and patient dissatisfaction . The incidence of sore throat has been reported to be between 6% and 90% even under optimal intubating conditions. There are several factors that have been shown to contribute to postoperative sore throat such as patient related factors, type of anesthesia and type of surgery. Corticosteroids are also commonly used in the perioperative period to potentiate analgesics and as antiemetics. The p... Read More

Alternative Schedule of Velcade/Dexamethasone Plus Doxil for Patients With Multiple Myeloma
Terminated
The current study is being conducted to evaluate the possibility that a different schedule of bortezomib, doxorubicin HCl liposome, and dexamethasone might decrease the incidence of peripheral neuropathy yet maintain similar efficacy and allow maintenance of bortezomib dosing for a longer period.

Study of Augmented Hyper-CVAD in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Salvage
Completed
The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if a special combination of chemotherapy drugs called "augmented hyper-CVAD chemotherapy" given over 6 to 8 months followed by monthly maintenance chemotherapy for one year can help to control acute lymphoblastic leukemia or lymphoblastic lymphoma. The safety of this therapy will also be studied.

Velcade, Doxil, and Dexamethasone (VDd) as First Line Therapy for Multiple Myeloma
Completed
This is a research study for patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma remains a non-curable disease however, newer medications and their combinations appear to provide higher response rates and higher complete response rates than current treatment options. One of the new medications in multiple myeloma is Velcade. Preliminary results from a study using a combination of Velcade with Doxil have shown high response rates (disease reduction). Preliminary results also show tha... Read More

Study of Combination Therapy With VELCADE, Doxil, and Dexamethasone (VDd) in Multiple Myeloma
Completed
Patients are being asked to take part in this research study because they have multiple myeloma which has relapsed after (come back), or is refractory to (unaffected by), initial therapy. For patients who have relapsed or are refractory to therapy, there is no agreed upon standard treatment. Treatment options include chemotherapy and, for some patients, bone marrow transplants. None of the available treatments are curative and investigators are continually looking for more effective treatments.... Read More
