MLN9708 (Ixazomib) in Combination With Panobinostat and Dexamethasone in Multiple Myeloma
Completed
This study will look at the safety and tolerability of the new drug MLN9708 in combination with the existing drugs panobinostat and dexamethasone among patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. This study will also look at the response and clinical benefit of the treatment and the progression-free survival and overall survival of study participants.

Ozurdex for Diabetic Macular Edema Treated With Pars Plana vitrEctomy and Membrane RemovAl (OPERA Study)
Completed
This study will examine the use of the dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex) in patients with macular edema associated with an epiretinal or preretinal membrane requiring surgical intervention. After the surgery is performed (pars plana vitrectomy), an Ozurdex implant will be placed in the eye. Patients will be followed for 1 year.

The Effect of Dexamethasone on the Duration of Interscalene Nerve Blocks With Ropivacaine or Bupivacaine
Terminated
This study will test the hypothesis that adding dexamethasone significantly prolongs the duration of ropivacaine and bupivacaine analgesia, and that the magnitude of the effect differs among the two local anaesthetics.. Participants will be patients undergoing shoulder surgery with an interscalene nerve block.

The Effects of Corticosteroids, Glucose Control, and Depth-of-Anesthesia on Perioperative Inflammation and Morbidity From Major Non-cardiac Surgery (Dexamethasone, Light Anesthesia and Tight Glucose Control (DeLiT Trial))
Terminated
Evidence thus suggests that steroid administration, tight glucose control, and avoidance of deep anesthesia may decrease perioperative morbidity by reducing the inflammatory response to surgery. Using a three-way factorial approach, the investigators thus propose to test the primary hypotheses that major perioperative morbidity is reduced by: 1) low-dose dexamethasone; 2) intensive perioperative glucose control; and 3) lighter anesthesia. Secondary hypotheses include that each intervention redu... Read More

Oncolytic HSV-1716 in Treating Younger Patients With Refractory or Recurrent High Grade Glioma That Can Be Removed By Surgery
Terminated
This phase I trial studies the side effects and the safety of injecting HSV1716 (a new experimental therapy) into or near the tumor resection cavity. The injection will be done at the time of surgery. HSV1716 is a virus that has a gene which has been changed or removed (mutated) in such a way that lets the virus multiply in dividing cells of the tumor and kills the tumor cells.

The Effect of Systemic or Perineural Dexamethasone on the Duration of Interscalene Nerve Blocks With Ropivacaine
Terminated
Patients undergoing rotator cuff repair or subacromial decompression at the investigators institution are frequently hospitalized overnight due to inadequate pain relief after resolution of interscalene brachial plexus blocks. For ropivacaine 0.5%, the investigators usual local anesthetic, previous studies report an analgesic duration of 11.1 ± 5 hours without epinephrine and approximately 12 hours with epinephrine. Consequently, a method of prolonging analgesia from a brachial plexus block with... Read More

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Treating Patients With Radiation Necrosis of the Brain
Unknown
RATIONALE: Hyperbaric oxygen may increase blood flow and decrease swelling in areas of the brain damaged by radiation therapy. Giving hyperbaric oxygen therapy together with dexamethasone may be an effective treatment for radiation necrosis of the brain. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well hyperbaric oxygen therapy works in treating patients with radiation necrosis of the brain.

Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Multiple Myeloma
Completed
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy consisting of liposomal doxorubicin, vincristine, and dexamethasone in treating patients with newly diagnosed or previously treated multiple myeloma.

Arsenic Trioxide, Ascorbic Acid, Dexamethasone, and Thalidomide in Treating Patients With Multiple Myeloma
Withdrawn
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as arsenic trioxide and dexamethasone, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Thalidomide may stop the growth of multiple myeloma by blocking blood flow to the cancer. Giving arsenic trioxide together with ascorbic acid, dexamethasone, and thalidomide may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving arsenic trioxide together with asco... Read More
