Paclitaxel Treatment Options in New Jersey

This randomized phase III trial studies cyclophosphamide and doxorubicin hydrochloride compared with paclitaxel as adjuvant therapy in treating breast cancer in women with 0-3 positive axillary lymph nodes. Giving additional cancer treatment after surgery may help to lower the risk that the cancer will come back (adjuvant therapy). Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydrochloride, and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Chemoprotective drugs, such as glutathione, may help prevent peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin. The purpose of this study is to determine if treatment with paclitaxel plus AMG 386 is superior to paclitaxel plus placebo in women with recurrent partially platinum sensitive or resistant epithelial ovarian cancer, primary peritoneal cancer or fallopian tube cancer. For patients with this type of cancer, one standard treatment option is cetuximab (Erbitux®) + radiation. We wish to study the addition of albumin-bound paclitaxel (Abraxane®) to this standard regimen of cetuximab + radiation. Albumin-bound paclitaxel and cetuximab both are chemotherapy drugs which are administered by vein. Previous studies have shown that albumin-bound paclitaxel can kill head and neck cancer cells when given alone or in combination with chemotherapy. The purpose of this study is to establish a safe dose range of albumin-bound paclitaxel given in combination with cetuximab and radiation therapy.
