Paclitaxel Treatment Options in Pennsylvania

This randomized phase III trial studies proton chemoradiotherapy to see how well it works compared to photon chemoradiotherapy in treating patients with stage II-IIIB non-small cell lung cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. Specialized radiation therapy that delivers a high dose of radiation directly to the tumor, such as photon or proton beam radiation therapy, may kill more tumor cells and cause less damage to normal tissue. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, carboplatin, etoposide, and cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Researchers are looking for new ways to treat people with head and neck cancer whose cancer has come back after treatment (recurrent) or whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic). Some people with recurrent or metastatic head and neck cancer are treated with chemotherapy and immunotherapy, but the cancer gets worse. This phase III trial compares pembrolizumab with radiation therapy to pembrolizumab without radiation therapy (standard therapy) given after pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy for the treatment of patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck that has spread from where it first started (primary site) to other places in the body (metastatic). Pembrolizumab is a type of immunotherapy that stimulates the body's immune system to fight cancer cells. Pembrolizumab targets and blocks a protein called PD-1 on the surface of certain immune cells called T-cells. Blocking PD-1 triggers the T-cells to find and kill cancer cells. Radiation therapy uses high-powered rays to kill cancer cells. This is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, phase II trial of nab-paclitaxel with or without mifepristone for advanced, glucocorticoid receptor-positive, triple-negative breast cancer. A total of 64 patients will receive nab-paclitaxel. Patients will be randomly assigned to either receive placebo or to receive mifepristone daily on the day prior to and day of each dose of nab-paclitaxel. Patients will be enrolled over 12 months and followed for 12 months following completion of study. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and efficacy of treatment with pembrolizumab (MK-3475) compared to a combination of carboplatin and paclitaxel in women with mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) advanced or recurrent endometrial carcinoma who have not previously been treated with prior systemic chemotherapy.
