Paclitaxel Treatment Options in South Carolina

This randomized phase III trial studies carboplatin and paclitaxel to compare how well they work with or without bevacizumab and/or cetuximab in treating patients with stage IV or non-small cell lung cancer that has returned after a period of improvement (recurrent). Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Bevacizumab may prevent the growth of new blood vessels that tumor needs to grow. Cetuximab may also stop cancer cells from growing by binding and interfering with a protein on the surface of the tumor cell that is needed for tumor growth. It is not yet known whether giving carboplatin and paclitaxel are more effective with or without bevacizumab and/or cetuximab in treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Read Less

This study was originally designed as a Phase III randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study to assess the safety and tolerability, and efficacy of paclitaxel plus trastuzumab plus lapatinib compared with paclitaxel plus trastuzumab plus placebo in women with ErbB2 overexpressing metastatic breast cancer. The planned study was a two stage design with an initial open-label safety stage to be conducted in approximately 65 subjects followed by a randomized phase conducted in a further 700 subjects. The open-label part of the study sequentially enrolled three cohorts with patients receiving a different dose combination of paclitaxel, trastuzumab and lapatinib. This three-cohort, multi-stage, randomized, Phase II, multicenter trial will evaluate the safety and tolerability and estimate the efficacy of cobimetinib plus paclitaxel versus placebo plus paclitaxel in Cohort I, of cobimetinib plus atezolizumab plus paclitaxel in Cohort II, and of cobimetinib plus atezolizumab plus nab-paclitaxel in Cohort III in participants with metastatic or locally advanced, triple-negative adenocarcinoma of the breast who have not received prior systemic therapy for metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Participants may continue on study treatment until the development of progressive disease (PD) or the loss of clinical benefit, unacceptable toxicity, and/or consent withdrawal. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, carboplatin, and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of \[cancer/tumor\] cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. External radiation therapy uses high-energy x rays to kill tumor cells. Internal radiation uses radioactive material placed directly into or near a tumor to kill tumor cells. It is not yet known whether giving cisplatin and external and internal radiation therapy together with carboplatin and paclitaxel kills more tumor cells. Read Less
