Manipulation of the Intratesticular Hormonal Milieu With Exogenous Testosterone (HOP 5) Testicular Aspiration Addendum
Completed
This study is being offered to all participants of the ACY-5 study as an optional addition to the male contraceptive study in which they participated. Participation is voluntary. The purpose of this added procedure (Testicular Aspiration-HOP 3) is to determine the amount of testosterone (male hormone) in the testes of men who are on a male contraceptive regimen.

Oral Androgens in Man-3 (ORAL T-3) Pharmacokinetics of Oral Testosterone
Completed
The purpose of this study is to test the how the body absorbs and processes new forms of oral testosterone. Information gained during the study may help develop better forms of testosterone therapy in the future. We will be administering three drugs. Dutasteride is FDA approved to treat prostate enlargement. Lupron is approved for treatment of prostate cancer. Testosterone is approved for treatment of testicular insufficiency. They are being used in this study for "off-label" research purposes.... Read More

Oral Androgens in Man-4: (Short Title: Oral T-4)
Completed
The protocol was designed to address the hypothesis that oral testosterone enanthate plus dutasteride can suppress the secretion of LH and FSH after four weeks of administration. In addition, we will compare the gonadotropin suppression mediated by a dose of testosterone enanthate (400 mg twice daily) that would be expected to maintain the serum testosterone in the normal range throughout the day, with the same dose (800 mg once daily) administered once daily. This larger once-daily dose is expe... Read More

Comparison of Estrogen and Methyltestosterone Combination Treatments for Postmenopausal Hot Flushes
Completed
This is a research study to evaluate the effectiveness, safety and side effects of several dose levels of esterified estrogens (EE) and methyltestosterone (MT) given individually and in combination compared to a placebo (a tablet with no active drug in it) as a possible treatment for vasomotor symptoms (such as hot flushes and flushing) of menopause. EE and testosterone are two hormones which are typically deficient in menopausal women

The Effect of 5-Alpha Reductase on Testosterone in Men
Unknown
The enzyme 5-alpha reductase is present in small amounts in muscle and converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Testosterone affects lean body tissue, muscle size, muscle strength, and sexual function in men. This study will evaluate how 5-alpha reductase influences the effects of testosterone in young healthy men.

OBJECTIVES: I. Determine whether testosterone normalization ameliorates muscle protein hypercatabolism by increasing net protein synthesis in men with burn injury. II. Determine whether the effectiveness of testosterone is enhanced by stimulation of inward amino acid transport as a consequence of hyperaminoacidemia in these men. III. Determine whether testosterone normalization during hospitalization minimizes the need for rehabilitation by increasing net protein synthesis and preserving skele... Read More
