Development of a Cough Control Questionnaire (CCQ)
Recruiting
Chronic cough (\>8 weeks in duration) affects 5-12% of the global population, and is associated with considerable health status impairment and comorbidities. Currently, there are validated severity and impact outcome measures whilst objective measures with cough frequency monitoring is not available in routine clinical practice. Unlike other chronic respiratory diseases, namely asthma, there are no validated dedicated tools to assess the control of cough as a disease.
This study aims to develop... Read More

Mayo AVC Registry and Biobank
Recruiting
Arrhythmogenic ventricular cardiomyopathy (AVC) is a genetic condition which affects the heart and can lead to heart failure and rhythm problems, of which, sudden cardiac arrest or death is the most tragic and dangerous. Diagnosis and screening of blood-relatives is very difficult as the disease process can be subtle, but sufficient enough, so that the first event is sudden death.
The Mayo Clinic AVC Registry is a collaboration between Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA and Papworth Hospital, Cambridg... Read More

The Clear Conversations Project
Recruiting
Understanding health information can be difficult. This means some people struggle to know how to manage their health. Also, people may not know what health services to use or when to use them. This can lead to poorer health.
It is therefore important health workers can communicate information clearly. This is so people using health services can understand it and know what to do. Having clear conversations with service users could help them to improve their health. More research is needed into... Read More

Study on Optimal Temperature During Cardiopulmonary Bypass (THERMIC-4)
Recruiting
In order to perform heart surgery, a machine called cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), or more commonly known as a heart-lung machine, is used to maintain the circulation of oxygenated blood needed by the rest of the body and its organs.
Historically, when a patient is connected to CPB, their body is cooled below the normal body temperature. This is known as hypothermia. This is because scientific studies have previously shown that reduced body temperature lowers metabolism and therefore offers more... Read More

Decision Support Tool for Revascularisation Options in Coronary Artery Disease
Recruiting
Together with patients and healthcare professionals, we want to design a Decision Support Tool (DST) that will help people with coronary artery disease to understand and choose treatments that best reflect their preferences and values.
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of death. Blood vessels supplying oxygen to the heart muscle become narrowed by a gradual build-up of fatty material. This can result in heart attacks, heart failure, and sudden death. One way to treat the blockage... Read More

Coronary Sinus Reducer Implantation in Patients With Ischaemia and Non-obstructed Coronary Arteries and Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction.
Recruiting
To demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of the CS Reducer for the treatment of patients with ischaemia and non-obstructed coronary arteries (INOCA) and coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) and through a nested mechanistic substudy investigate the physiological responses in the coronary microcirculation responsible for changes in myocardial perfusion.

Precision Medicine for Stem Cell Transplantation
Recruiting
A study of patients undergoing haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, a procedure in which patients are infused with stem cells from a donor, resulting in a new immune system that eliminates cancer or replaces diseased bone marrow. This study aims to develop new blood tests that predict the onset of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) and leukaemia relapse, two life-threatening complications that frequently limit the success of treatment. Predictive tests would allow doctors to individual... Read More

Effect of 12-week Milk Fat Globule Membrane Supplementation on the Human Muscle Function of Healthy, Recreationally Active Adults
Recruiting
The main aim of this study is to understand if chronic supplementation (12 weeks) of a milk fat globule membrane containing supplement, called bioactive whey protein concentrate, improves human muscle function greater than a placebo supplement within a cohort of healthy, recreationally active adults. Furthermore, we aim to investigate whether any potential benefits of milk fat globule membrane are influenced by age through the assessment of 2 distinct age subgroups (young and older). We hypothes... Read More
