Visual Perception Difficulties After Stroke
Recruiting
The goal of this observational study is to learn how well the Oxford Visual Perception Screening (OxVPS) tool can identify stroke survivors with visual perception difficulties.
The main aim is to determine the accuracy and utility of the OxVPS compared to the current gold standard assessment in stroke survivors. In other words, how well can the Oxford Visual Perception Screening tool (OxVPS) identify stroke patients with visual perception problems?
Participants will completed the OxVPS and the... Read More

Feasibility Study to Investigate Rectal Mucus in Aero-Digestive Tract Cancer.
Recruiting
The aim of the study is to assess the feasibility of genomic and epigenetic analysis of rectal mucus to detect non-colorectal cancers of the aero- digestive tract using samples collected by the OriCol™ Sampling Device.
The primary objective of the study is to assess whether significant changes in DNA mutation and methylation associated with Non-colorectal cancers of the Aero- digestive Tract (NCRCADT) can be detected in rectal mucus as shed cells and cell-free DNA (cfDNA) pass through the gut a... Read More

NEOadjuvant PembRolizumab In Stratified Medicine - ColoRectal Cancer
Recruiting
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the 2nd to 3rd most common malignant disease in developed countries, with over 1 million new cases and 500,000 deaths worldwide each year. The primary treatment for early stage CRC is surgery to remove the tumour, which is possible in 80% of patients. Even after surgery up to half of patients will develop recurrence or spread of the disease (metastases) which is incurable. Survival after 5 years is approximately 14% for patients with metastatic disease. Clinical trials... Read More

Thinking About Memory: How Confident Are You in Your Memory, and Does it Change With Age?
Recruiting
Memory and our own beliefs and confidence in our ability to remember are important for our daily lives. For example, low confidence may hold us back from doing certain tasks, whereas misplaced high confidence in our memories may lead us to false beliefs about what has happened in the past.
However, it is not fully understood how people form their beliefs about their memory abilities. These beliefs we hold about how good our memory is are form of evaluation of our own abilities known as 'metacog... Read More

Open Label Trial Studying the Safety and Effectiveness of ILUVIEN® (190μg) in Children and Adolescents, Who Have Recurrent Non-infectious Uveitis Affecting the Posterior Segment of the Eye.
Recruiting
The main aim is to test how safe and effective the medicine ILUVIEN® (190μg) is for children and adolescents, who have non-infectious uveitis that keeps coming back and affects the back of the eye.
The main thing Alimera wants to find out is how well the implant works for treating non-infectious uveitis in the back of the eye. Treatment success will be measured after 6 months of using the implant.
The treatment will be considered successful if two things happen:
1. No swelling in the back of... Read More

ICONIC: Improving Outcomes Through Collaboration in OsteosarComa
Recruiting
There has been little improvement in outcome for patients with osteosarcoma (OS) over the last 20 years. There have been only a few clinical trials of new treatments and no major new therapies introduced recently. This is in part because there is no good understanding of the biology of osteosarcoma, but also trials have only included subgroups of patients. The more that is understood about how and why osteosarcoma arises and grows the better clinicians will be able to decide what treatments are... Read More

Neural Mechanisms of Music Intervention Chronic Arm Hemiparesis Following Stroke: A Single Case Series EEG Study
Recruiting
The aims of the study are to recruit five participants with stroke upper limb hemiparesis and determine the effects on neural reorganisation of a three-week music intervention using electroencephalogram measures.
Secondly, the researchers will measure for changes in arm function before and after the three-week music intervention.
This is a single-arm pre-/post experiment
Primary research questions:
What are the neuroplastic changes induced by Therapeutic Instrumental Music Performance (TIMP)... Read More

DIagnoSing Care hOme UTI Study
Recruiting
The number of care home residents is increasing and urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common amongst this group. Accurate diagnosis of UTI is important because not treating an infection may lead to serious consequences including death. However, giving antibiotic treatment when there isn't an infection causes side effects and antibiotic resistance, making future infections harder to treat.
Unfortunately, there are several challenges that mean that it is difficult to diagnose UTI accurately in... Read More

Cerebral Oxygenation and Metabolism and Severe Head Injury in Paediatrics (COMetSHIP)
Recruiting
Children suffer proportionally more head injuries than any other age group and children with head injuries have the highest mortality of all children admitted with traumatic injuries. The investigators aim to investigate the factors that contribute to poor outcomes after paediatric acute brain injury by collecting observational and outcome data. Much of the brain damage that results in poor outcomes actually happens in the hours and days after the injury. This is due to several factors such as b... Read More

Group Compassionate Mind Training for Adults Experiencing the Menopause Transition
Recruiting
Menopause transition occurs naturally for women aged 45-55. In addition to the hormone changes, there are often changes in other areas of life including low mood, anxiety, 'brain fog' and embarrassment. Some people may not be eligible for or want to receive hormone replacement therapy, therefore psychological treatments for menopause have been investigated. There is growing evidence for the use of Compassionate Mind Training (CMT). CMT aims to reduce feelings of self-criticism and shame which ar... Read More
