Qualitative Study of Surgeons With Prospective Patient Follow-up
Recruiting
Necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) is a devastating disease which causes severe bowel inflammation resulting in babies becoming critically unwell. It mainly affects premature babies (who can be born as early as 22 weeks) in the first few weeks of life. A quarter of babies don't respond to intensive care treatment and require surgery to remove bowel which has died to prevent them from getting sicker. Sadly, about a third of the most unwell babies don't survive and those that do have a high incidence... Read More

Approximately 330 million people in the world are living with asthma and 3-10% of them has difficult asthma that is challenging to control even with maximum doses of pharmacological treatment. In the last five years our multidisciplinary team has shown the clinical benefits of a short-term structured exercise programme for people living with difficult asthma (PDA) (1). However, engaging PDA in self-maintained exercise long-term and outside of the hospital environment remains a challenge. Changin... Read More

The Effect of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) in Smokers Failing a Smoking Cessation Program
Recruiting
The National Health Service (NHS) stop smoking service at the Central Lancashire NHS Trust serves a diverse population of smokers, with a very good quit rate and high standards. However, clinical experience predicts that some clients are unlikely to succeed through the NHS smoking cessation program. This special population has difficulty quitting for a variety of reasons. Some relapse over the course of the following two years and return repeatedly to the service. Others, for instance those with... Read More

A Feasibility Window Study of Pembrolizumab Prior to Second Evacuation for Post-molar Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia
Recruiting
Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases (GTD) are a variety of rare, pregnancy related cell multiplication disorders of cells of the placenta which can range from pre-cancerous growths to more serious lesions that can spread to nearby tissues that can cause serious health issues.
Most patients that develop GTD are diagnosed at the precancerous stage early in pregnancy and undergo surgical removal of the disease from the uterus. Around 15% of patients are not cured by surgical removal alone and need... Read More

Quality of Pediatric Resuscitation in a Multicenter Collaborative
Recruiting
This is a prospective, observational, multi-center cohort study of pediatric cardiac arrests.
The purpose of the study is to determine the association between chest compression mechanics (rate, depth, flow fraction, compression release) and patient outcomes. In addition, the investigators will determine the association of post cardiac arrest care with patient outcomes.

Perpetual Observational Study - Ventilator Associated Pneumonia
Recruiting
Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a bacterial respiratory infection that patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) often get when they cannot breathe for themselves and require mechanical ventilation. It is linked to higher chances of death, a longer stay in the hospital, higher costs, and the use of more antibiotics.
Options to help prevent or treat this disease are in development and will require evaluation in future clinical trials.
The goal of POS-VAP is to build and continuously tr... Read More

Adaptive ChemoTherapy for Ovarian Cancer in Patients With Replased Platinum-sensitive High Grade Serous or High Grade Endometrioid Ovarian Cancer
Recruiting
ACTOv will compare standard 3-weekly carboplatin (AUC5), to carboplatin delivered according to an AT regimen. The AT regimen will modify carboplatin dose according to changes in the clinical-standard serum biomarker CA125 as a proxy measure of total tumour burden and an individual patient's response to the most recent chemotherapy treatment. AT could prolong sensitivity to carboplatin and extend tumour control, while simultaneously reducing chemotherapy dose and drug-induced toxicity. Carboplati... Read More

A Review of the Management and Outcomes of Children With SMA in the West Midlands During 2017-2022
Recruiting
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare neuromuscular condition, characterised by loss of motor neurons as a result of a mutation in the survival motor neuron gene. This results in muscle wasting and in the most common and severe type, death before 24 months. Over the recent years there has been a dynamic shift in the therapeutic options for these patients involving both approved therapies, including gene therapy, and access to clinical trials in genetic modifying.
As a result of this mortality... Read More

Diabetes Diagnosis During Acute Admissions (FIND-IT)
Recruiting
People with type 2 diabetes are two-and-a-half times more likely to experience heart failure and twice more likely to have a heart attack compared to people without diabetes. People coming to hospital often have unknown hyperglycaemia. It is thought that three quarters of people admitted to the Coronary care unit with a myocardial infarction have hyperglycaemia and over a third of whom are undiagnosed with diabetes and over 40% with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). All of these patients are at... Read More
