Prospective Data Collection on Clinical, Radiological and Patient Reported Outcomes After Pleural Intervention
Recruiting
The PROSPECT study aims to look at the number of problems or side effects which occur after patients have had a procedure completed to remove fluid or air from the space between the lung and the chest wall. Other information will also be collected to see whether anything else affects which patients have problems after the procedure such as bleeding or infection. This study will also investigate whether it is possible to find out which patients are likely to feel a lot better after the procedure.... Read More

AMP SCZ® Observational Study: PREDICT-DPACC
Recruiting
The Accelerating Medicines Partnership® Schizophrenia (AMP® SCZ) is a large international collaboration to develop algorithms using a set of clinical and cognitive assessments, multi-modal biomarkers, and clinical endpoints that can be used to predict the trajectories and outcomes of individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis and to advance the testing of pharmacological interventions for CHR individuals in need. The goal is to accurately predict which individuals are likely to remit,... Read More

The Use and Development of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in the Adoptive Cell Therapy (ACT) Setting
Recruiting
The goals of this observational study is to
1. To develop an Adoptive Cell Therapy (ACT)-specific PROM (Patient Reported Outcome Measure) to assess quality of life and symptomatology
2. To develop guidelines/recommendations for the use of PROMs in ACT trials
Participants will be recruited in four separate stages:
Stage 1: Semi-structured interviews to generate PROM items. Stage 2: Cognitive interviews to ensure that all items are clear and easily understood.
Stage 3: Initial pilot of the dra... Read More

Longitudinal Changes in Serum KL-6 in IPF
Recruiting
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic lung disease with a poor prognosis. More accurate tests to predict disease progression and response to treatment are required.
Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) is a blood marker associated with IPF. Results from previous studies have shown that levels of KL-6 are higher in patients with IPF compared to people without the disease. In addition, it is not clear what impact treatment has on KL-6 levels, and whether this could help us to monitor how effe... Read More

Pelvipower for Faecal Incontinence
Recruiting
Faecal incontinence (FI) is a common condition which drastically reduces patient's quality of life and for which there are few effective treatments. The causes of FI are multiple and include disturbances in neuromuscular function (and structure) of the anal canal, rectum and pelvic floor. Treatment options include antidiarrheals, laxatives, biofeedback, surgery, SNS and PTNS. This study will test the Pelvipower extracorporeal magnetic stimulation device as a treatment for faecal incontinence.

Prospective Multicenter Clinical Study on the Visual and Refractive Outcomes and Safety Outcomes Following Implantation of an AddOn Intraocular Lens in Previously Pseudophakic Eyes
Recruiting
The purpose of this prospective multicenter clinical study is to evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes and safety outcomes following bilateral implantation of trifocal and/or trifocal toric 1stQ AddOn (Medicontur) intraocular lenses (IOLs) to correct residual refractive errors, astigmatism, and presbyopia in previously pseudophakic eyes.

Volume Mode Non-invasive Ventilation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of using intelligent volume assured pressure support (iVAPS-AE) versus spontaneous timed (ST) modes of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in patients diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The investigators believe that the use of iVAPS-AE mode NIV over a 90 day period will produce NIV compliance data and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) scores that are equivalent or no worse compared to ST mode NIV.

Parkinson's Disease: Risk Assessment of Persistent Delirium and Its Management
Recruiting
Background: delirium describes the change in people's behaviour and thinking when they are unwell. People with delirium may appear confused, have difficulty with organisation and can be different to their usual personality. Older people with Parkinson's are particularly susceptible to persistent delirium, which can last over 14 days. They are more likely to need increased community support and they have a greater risk of death and dementia.
However, there is limited research for people with Par... Read More

The Effect of Alginate Supplementation on Weight Management
Recruiting
This project will assess the effect of the alginate (in a capsules) on the weight of generally healthy volunteers over a 12 week period.
To achieve this, will recruit 150 (non-smoking) generally healthy volunteers to attend the study centre on four separate occasions. Volunteers will be randomly allocated into active or placebo arm of the trial, both will receive capsules with the same appearance.
The volunteers will have their height, weight, waist circumference, body composition, and fasting... Read More

Sweat Response, Sweat Composition and Thermoregulatory Response to Exercise in Heat in Adults With Cystic Fibrosis on Modulator Therapy.
Recruiting
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a common inherited condition in the Caucasian population resulting in poor function and/or production of the CF transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein. The CFTR protein plays a crucial role in the secretion and re-absorption of sodium chloride within the sweat gland. The sweat gland has played a key role in diagnosing and understanding CF with sweat chloride elevation being a key criterion to diagnosing CF. People with CF are thought to be at risk of exertiona... Manchester Lung Health Study
Recruiting
The Manchester Lung Health Study (qUEST) will assess the uptake of a community-based lung cancer screening service and its impact across a deprived area of North and East Manchester, which has high rates of lung cancer. One measure will be to compare the number and stage of lung cancers detected through screening to those detected outside of screening. In addition we will investigate the potential of a blood and nose test to detect lung cancer or to help decide who would benefit from screening.... Read More
