Manchester Lung Health Study
Recruiting
The Manchester Lung Health Study (qUEST) will assess the uptake of a community-based lung cancer screening service and its impact across a deprived area of North and East Manchester, which has high rates of lung cancer. One measure will be to compare the number and stage of lung cancers detected through screening to those detected outside of screening. In addition we will investigate the potential of a blood and nose test to detect lung cancer or to help decide who would benefit from screening.... Read More

Comparison Trial of Open-tip Pulsed Needle Biopsy and Conventional Core Biopsy in Axillary Lymph Nodes
Recruiting
The aim of the study is to compare performance and safety of a newly developed 14-gauge open-tip pulsed biopsy needle with a conventional 14-gauge core biopsy needle for sampling of radiologically indeterminate or suspicious axillary lymph nodes in women with radiologically suspected breast cancer.
This is a Sponsor-initiated multicentre randomised trial. At the time of radiological breast cancer diagnosis women with ultrasonically abnormal lymph nodes undergo axillary sampling using the NeoNav... Read More

Effects of a High EPA Multinutrient Supplement on Negative Affect in Young Adults.
Recruiting
This is a 12-week-long, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial exploring the efficacy of a high-EPA multinutrient supplement in the management of sub-clinical anxiety and depression. The investigators focus on young and healthy, adult university students, who may otherwise not be eligible for pharmacological or cognitive behavioural therapy interventions.

The Imperial Comprehensive Cognitive Assessment in Cerebrovascular Disease (IC3)
Recruiting
Stroke is a major cause of death and disability worldwide, frequently resulting in persistent cognitive deficits among survivors. These deficits negatively impact recovery and therapy engagement, and their treatment is consistently rated as high priority by stakeholders and clinicians. Although clinical guidelines endorse cognitive screening for post-stroke management, there is currently no gold standard approach for identifying cognitive deficits after stroke, and clinical stroke services lack... Biology of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy
Recruiting
The investigators are collecting genetic information through blood samples as well as clinical and EEG data from over 1000 people with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME) across the UK, Europe and North America. This study will draw on both existing and new samples from JME patients. These will be compared to anonymised data from samples for 2000 controls. The goal of this study is to find the genetic cause of JME. Finding the cause will help create better treatments for JME, as well as improve pa... Read More

Beta-blockers or Placebo for Primary Prophylaxis (BOPPP) of Oesophageal Varices Trial.
Recruiting
Research has proven that large varices can be treated with beta-blockers (a type of anti-hypertensive medication) to reduce the pressure in the veins. The management of small varices is still uncertain. This study aims to discover if beta blockers can be used in this setting. We hypothesize that beta blockers will reduce the risk of bleeding from small varices from 20% to 10% over a period of 3 years, resulting in significant cost savings to the NHS from better patient outcomes.

Cortical Disarray Measurement in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease
Recruiting
The aim of this study is to find out whether a new image analysis technique called Cortical Disarray Measurement (CDM) could be used to help better diagnose Alzheimer's disease. This study will see whether changes on CDM can be used to identify Alzheimer's disease from a group of people living with memory and thinking problems. The study will also explore how CDM relates to changes in memory or thinking over time.

Partnership in Safeguarding People With Dementia From Primary and Social Care Perspectives
Recruiting
"Adult safeguarding is everyone's responsibility". The Care Act 2014 makes safeguarding a legal duty. It provides local authorities and other agencies in England with a responsibility to protect adults with care and support needs from abuse and neglect. This is done most effectively when all relevant agencies work together. This is particularly important for people living with dementia, as they are at higher risk of abuse or neglect. Such abuse is most common in their own homes and care settings... Read More

Aspirin to Target Arterial Events in Chronic Kidney Disease
Recruiting
This study aims to find out whether people with chronic kidney disease \[CKD\] should take low dose aspirin to reduce the risk of first heart attack or stroke (cardiovascular disease \[CVD\]). CKD is common and is associated with an increased risk of CVD.
CVD is caused by small blood clots and aspirin thins the blood to reduce the risk of such clots developing but it also increases the risk of bleeding.
Aspirin is recommended to prevent further CVD in people who have already had a first CVD ev... Read More
