The current study aims to examine the benefits of an education/support group program for individuals with progressive aphasia (caused by various etiologies, diagnoses) and their carepartners. The current study utilizes pre-, post-treatment, and follow-up assessments to measure effects of a psychoeducational support group and an implementation/communication skills training phase on measures of psychosocial function, communicative effectiveness and speech/language function. Analysis of study-specific surveys and semi-structured interviews will provide qualitative data regarding outcomes. Before beginning the education and support group, focus groups will be run in order to set priorities for the themes to be included in the education program. Through a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT), the aim is to test the clinical impact and feasibility of a virtual reality (VR) cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program versus sham VR among patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is hypothesized that using VR-administered CBT may reduce abdominal pain, leading to improved overall physical, psychological, and social functioning when compared to sham VR. Read Less

This study looks at the effects of using "smart pumps" that connect with the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in 8 adult ICU units. We will interview nurses and healthcare team members to learn about any challenges with this technology. All nurses in these units will be invited to complete a survey on how easy the technology is to use. Some nurses will practice giving medications to "mannequins" in a simulation lab to see how they work with the pumps. We will also look at existing data to find out how many nurses use the technology and what types of alerts or errors come up. Finally, we will review patient charts to see if using the technology has increased or decreased errors in recording IV medication amounts. Read Less

The goal of this observational study is to characterize the brain processes of pain avoidance learning dysfunctions in individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD). The main questions it aims to answer are: Compared with healthy controls, do those with OUD exhibit impaired avoidance learning in response to pain? What are the brain processes that are associated with this avoidance learning dysfunction? Do these brain processes serve to predict future use or relapse? Researchers will compare those with OUD and healthy controls to determine avoidance learning dysfunction and its relationship with opioid use. Participants will be performing a learning task inside an fMRI scanner. Those with OUD will also be followed up for a year to determine future opioid use. Read Less
