This study investigates the impact of ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) on recognition memory in healthy, regular cannabis users. Participants complete the same recognition memory task after self-administering one of two different strains of cannabis flower one day and while not intoxicated another day. Event-related potentials (ERPs) are measured via electroencephalogram (EEG) during the recognition memory task. Blood is collected to quantify THC and CBD exposure. Participants also complete self-report measures of medical history, sleep quality, subjective cognitive function, physical activity, psychological functioning, substance use, and acute drug effects. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical utility of Neurosteer's brain monitoring platform for monitoring delirium, sedation, and agitation in intubated and sedated ICU patients. The research team will be conducting a single-site study. The research team will enroll 100 patients admitted to the NSICU. 50 of these patients will have Acute Neurological Injuries (ANI) and the other 50 will not have an ANI. All enrolled patients will receive the intervention, the Neurosteer brain monitoring device. The study intervention consists of the use of Neurosteer's innovative single-channel EEG monitoring device to determine if there is a good correlation and agreement between their signals/parameters to RASS, CAM-ICU, and continuous EEG monitoring readings. The Neurosteer device will be attached to their forehead and readings will be collected for the duration of their NSICU stay. The research team will adapt the current physical methods of detecting the depth of anesthesia i.e. through the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) \& CAM-ICU, to auditory stimulation, which will be delivered through earphones with no physical contact, with the aim of achieving a high correlation between the methods. RASS and CAM-ICU will be collected hourly as standard of care and Neurosteer auditory stimulation will be done 3-4 times a day to coincide with RASS and 1-2 times a day to coincide with CAM-ICU. The investigators will conduct a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the impact of an outreach campaign designed to increase engagement with Pack Health, a Quest Diagnostics wellness program providing individual health coaching for weight management and diabetes prevention. While employee wellness and disease-management programs have the potential to improve wellbeing and reduce healthcare costs, their effectiveness is often undermined by low engagement and selection bias in participant comparisons. This study will test whether an outreach approach that auto-enrolls eligible individuals-employees and their spouses/domestic partners-into the program, with the option to opt out, can increase engagement and improve health outcomes compared to the standard invitation-based approach. The primary objectives of this study are to determine whether physician modified endovascular grafts (PMEG) and specified company manufactured devices (all to be referred throughout jointly as the investigational devices) are a safe and effective method of treating patients with elective, symptomatic or ruptured juxtarenal aortic aneurysms in those patients considered to be unsuitable candidates for open surgical repair and have limited or no other options for treatment. Within few years the peritoneal membrane of adult peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients undergoes substantial morphological transformation, including progressive fibrosis, vasculopathy and neoangiogenesis. Ultrafiltration capacity steadily declines and ultimately results in PD failure. In children, peritoneal biopsies demonstrating PD associated alterations have not yet been obtained. They, however, should be particularly informative, since secondary tissue and vascular pathology related to ageing or diabetes is absent. An international, prospective peritoneal membrane biopsy study in children on PD will therefore be performed. Biopsies will be obtained at time of PD catheter insertion, on occasion of intercurrent abdominal surgery (e.g. hernia repair, catheter exchange) and at time of renal transplantation. Quantitative histomorphometry and tissue protein expression analyses will be correlated with time integrated PD treatment modalities and functional characteristics as well as inflammatory and cardiovascular comorbidity surrogate parameter. Blood will be obtained during clinical routine sampling. Biopsies will be obtained during clinically indicated operations, without substantially increasing operation time and associated surgical risks. The detailed histomorphometry of the PD membrane will give additional information, potentially impacting on the individual PD regime. 3/2018: The analyses of the pediatric PD biopsy demonstrated early and major transformation of the peritoneal membrane with neutral pH low GDP fluids, and significant vasculopathy already in children with CKD stage 5, further progressing with PD. The underlying mechanisms are partly understood, only. In view of these major findings and the numerous open questions, collection of biosamples will be continued in children and also in adult PD patients. The following questions will be addressed: Molecular counterparts of peritoneal semi-permeability, solute and water transport (beyond AQP1), pathomechanisms and molecular and functional impact of peritoneal transformation with low and high GDP fluids, and the respective pathomechanisms and molecular and functional impact of vascular disease in CKD and with different PD fluids. The impact of renal transplantation following PD will be assessed in a subgroup of patients with tenckhoff catheter removal several weeks after transplantation and a functioning graft. Read Less

Children with blunt abdominal trauma often get a CT as the first line imaging to evaluate for intra-abdominal organ injury. CT scans have some downsides with regard to radiation exposure, costs, and need for transport. Contrast enhanced ultrasonography has recently shown some promise as a way to detect intra-abdominal organ injury and may be able to replace the need for conventional CT scanning, without the need for ionizing radiation and the ability to be performed at the bedside.
