This online study aims to explore the benefits of nature for mood and cognition in persons with and without Parkinson's disease. For the purpose of this survey, "natural environment" refers to places that primarily consist of natural elements, such as vegetation, water bodies, and landscapes. This includes greenspaces (such as parks, gardens, neighborhood streets lined with trees, forests, or nature reserves) bluespaces (such as next to beaches, lakes, rivers, ponds, or waterfronts), and desert regions, among others. The purpose of the study is to evaluate peri-radicular healing after root-end surgery using Leukocyte and Platelet Rich Fibrin. The study population includes patients diagnosed with persistent periapical pathology and scheduled for Endodontic Microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Department of Endodontics. Patients undergoing routine endodontic microsurgery and who meet the inclusion criteria will be given the opportunity to opt in to receive L-PRF in the osteotomy site to promote bone formation. This exploratory study investigates how an imaging technique called 68Ga-FAPi-46 PET/CT can determine where and to which degree the FAPI tracer (68Ga-FAPi-46) accumulates in normal and cancer tissues in patients with cancer. Because some cancers take up 68Ga-FAPi-46 it can be seen with PET. FAP stands for Fibroblast Activation Protein. FAP is produced by cells that surround tumors (cancer associated fibroblasts). The function of FAP is not well understood but imaging studies have shown that FAP can be detected with FAPI PET/CT. Imaging FAP with FAPI PET/CT may in the future provide additional information about various cancers. Read Less

The investigators plan to examine the relation of perceptual variables-basic vision, unusual perceptual experiences(including but not limited to visual hallucinations)-to relevant functional variables such as cognition, mood, and alertness/sleepiness in an online sample of persons with Parkinson's disease (PwPD). It is hypothesized that unusual perceptual experiences will relate significantly to the selected variables. CL is a small-group instructional approach that can enhance peer relations and reduce peer-related risks, as well as promote academic engagement and achievement and reduce racial disparities. The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about cognition in psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder). The main question it aims to answer is: Can we use magnetic stimulation to change processing speed (how quickly people can solve challenging tasks). Participants will be asked to perform cognitive tasks (problem-solving) and undergo brain scans before and after transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). TMS is a way to non-invasively change brain activity. Forms of TMS are FDA-approved to treat depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. In this study, we will use a different form of TMS to temporarily change brain activity to observe how that changes speed in problem-solving. Read Less

Although many people will develop recurrent pouchitis (inflammation of the ileal pouch-anal anastomosis or J-pouch after colectomy for ulcerative colitis) after an initial episode of pouchitis, there are currently no effective treatments to prevent recurrent pouchitis. The goal of this study is to evaluate the potential for rifaximin, an antibiotic, to prevent recurrent pouchitis after treatment for an initial episode of pouchitis. In this study, all patients will be given daily rifaximin for one year after being treated for an initial episode of pouchitis. This study will examine whether people are willing to take rifaximin for one year with the goal of preventing recurrent pouchitis. Additionally, this study will examine whether patients experience any unexpected side effects of rifaximin therapy. The information gained through this study will potentially be helpful in improving the ability to prevent recurrent pouchitis in patients who have a colectomy for ulcerative colitis. Read Less

People with hearing loss experience extra effort when listening, which can lead to severe psychological barriers to communication and social participation. Listening effort can lead to fatigue, mental strain, burnout, medical sick leave, and the need for increased time to recover from regular daily activities. This proposal aims to understand effort changes on a moment-to-moment basis during listening, how long the effort lasts, and how the planning and execution of effort is impacted by the experience of using a cochlear implant. People who experience repeated bouts of circadian misalignment, such as shift workers, are at higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and Type 2 diabetes (T2D) compared to daytime workers. However, the mechanism(s) by which shift work and associated circadian misalignment increase CVD and T2D risk are unknown. This project will examine whether elevated plasma lipids are a mechanism by which circadian misalignment impairs vascular function, insulin sensitivity, glucose homeostasis and muscle lipid accumulation, which could be targeted to prevent and treat cardiometabolic disease in people who chronically experience circadian misalignment, which includes more than 20% of the US workforce.
