The study is a Phase II clinical trial. Patients will receive intensity modulated total body irradiation (TBI) at a dose of 3 Gy with standard fludarabine/ i.v. cyclophosphamide conditioning prior to human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). The primary objective of the study is to determine the engraftment at Day +60 following HLA-haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplant protocol using immunosuppressive agents and low-dose total body irradiation (TBI) for conditioning and post-transplant cyclophosphamide in patients with sickle cell disease. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of modified FOLFIRINOX followed by stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) in patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC) and locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC). The primary hypothesis will be to determine if modified FOLFIRINOX followed by SBRT improves progression free survival (PFS) compared to historical controls treated with gemcitabine-based chemotherapy with or without standard fractionated radiation. This study plans to evaluate the time course of inflammation in the brain after a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury using positron emission tomography (PET) brain imaging. Patients will undergo PET scans of the brain at two weeks and two months after injury to measure neuro-inflammation. The results of the PET scans will be analyzed and correlated with the risk of post-traumatic epilepsy. Read Less

The objectives of the proposed study are to develop and evaluate protocols for ethnic/racial minority-specific research using cancer registry data. In conjunction with the Cancer Registry of Greater California (CRGC), the investigators have developed procedures to identify, recruit, and survey ethnic/racial minority patients with MM. To pilot the study, the investigators aim initially to test the feasibility of this protocol by contacting 400 eligible patients (100 African Americans, 100 Latinos, 100 Asian American/Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander-AANHPI and 100 non-Hispanic Whites as a comparison group) to conduct a pilot survey through which will ascertain etiological and survival-related factors for MM. Ultimately, the investigators hope the findings from this pilot will yield insight into the best practices for recruiting minorities with MM and serve as the basis for larger population-based studies of MM etiology and survival. The next phase of this study is to expand the study to all 3 California Cancer Registries, including the Greater Bay Area Cancer Registry and the Los Angeles Cancer Surveillance Program and Cancer Registry of Greater California. We will increase the sample size to recruit atleast 1000 participants per racial/ethnic group. We will also request to increase the scope of the study to also continue a survivorship cohort. In the US, the burden of very low birth weight (VLBW; \<1500 g) birth is borne disproportionately by black (non-Hispanic black/African American) mothers who are 2.2-2.6 times more likely than nonblack mothers to deliver VLBW infants. This disparity is amplified because black VLBW infants are significantly less likely to receive mother's own milk (MOM) feedings from birth until neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) discharge than nonblack infants, which adds to the lifelong burden of VLBW birth with increased risk of morbidities and greater costs. Pumping is associated with out-of-pocket and opportunity costs that are borne by mothers, unlike donor human milk and formula, which are paid for by NICUs. This innovative trial will determine the effectiveness of the intervention in reducing the disparity in MOM feedings and provide an economic analysis of the interventions, yielding critical data impacting generalizability and likelihood of implementation of results. The investigators hypothesize that mothers who receive intervention will have greater pumping volume and duration and their infants will be more likely to receive MOM at NICU discharge compared to mothers who receive standard of care lactation care and their infants. People with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) have narrow or blocked arteries that supply blood to the heart. Reduced blood flow to the heart muscle from CAD can cause chest pain or aching, especially with exercise or activity. CAD can lead to weakening of the heart muscle or heart failure, and a higher risk of heart attack or death. Certain proteins in the blood, known as biomarkers, can be found in people with CAD. Higher levels of these biomarkers are associated with a greater risk of complications from CAD. The purpose of this study is to see if a customized treatment based on biomarkers will reduce the biomarker levels and lead to lower risk of complications from CAD. Read Less

This trial studies how well spectroscopic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided proton therapy works in assessing metabolic change in pediatric patients with brain tumors. There are no FDA approved treatments for use in adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), many of whom have distressing anxiety, mood disturbances, sleep problems, and agitation. Some researchers and individuals with ASD have noted that cannabidiol (CBD) is beneficial for those psychiatric problems. This study is to learn more about the effectiveness and safety of CBD in the treatment of psychiatric problems in adults with ASD. The study will last 14 weeks total, during which six weeks participants will receive a pill containing CBD, two weeks where participants will receive no drug/placebo, and six weeks where participants will receive the placebo, an inactive pill. As part of the study, participants will have regular visits and be asked questions about anxiety, challenging behaviors, daily functioning, cognition, and physical symptoms, on standard assessments. This phase I trial evaluates the side effects and usefulness of axicabtagene clioleucel (a CAR-T therapy) and find out what effect, if any, it has on treating patients with HIV-associated aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that has come back (relapsed) or not responded to treatment (refractory). T cells are infection fighting blood cells that can kill tumor cells. Axicabtagene ciloleucel consists of genetically modified T cells, modified to recognize CD-19, a protein on the surface of cancer cells. These CD-19-specific T cells may help the body's immune system identify and kill CD-19-positive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma cells. Read Less
