Effects of 5HTP on the Injured Human Spinal Cord
Recruiting
This study will assess how the serotonin precursor, 5-HTP, alter nervous system excitability and motor function in individuals with spinal cord injuries of differing chronicity and severity. Participants will visit the lab on 4 separate occasions where they will be administered four different drugs in a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled crossover design.

BFR Therapy for Post-Op Rehab of ACL Reconstruction With Quadriceps Tendon Autograft
Recruiting
The overall objective of the proposed research is to conduct a prospective, randomized controlled trial to investigate whether the addition of BFR therapy to standard post-operative rehabilitation regimen significantly improves clinical outcomes following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) standardized with respect to both surgical technique and graft selection. Patients indicated for ACLR will be screened and offered enrollment into this prospective, randomized controlled trial. M... Read More

A Developmental Framework For Linking Phonological And Morpho-syntactic Sequential Pattern Rules In DLD: Production
Recruiting
The broad aim of this clinical study is to assess the hypothesis that morphological and phonological deficits are linked by a broader deficit in sequential pattern learning. This hypothesis applies to learning in general, but is especially critical as an avenue for developing earlier assessments and more powerful interventions for children with developmental language disorder (DLD; also known as specific language impairment). Other populations, such as at-risk toddlers, may also benefit from thi... Read More

MR Antagonist and LSD1
Recruiting
Lysine specific demethylase-1 (LSD1) is an epigenetic regulator of gene transcription involved in the pathophysiology of elevated blood pressure and likely renal damage in Blacks. This project investigates whether a genetically driven anti-hypertensive approach proves superior in controlling blood pressure and mitigating renal injury in Blacks who carry the risk allele for LSD1 (rs587168). The findings of these investigations may lead to a new approach in treating a subset (\~30%) of the essenti... Read More

Improving Visual Field Deficits With Noninvasive Brain Stimulation
Recruiting
This is a randomized, pilot interventional study in participants with visual field deficit (VFD) caused by cortical lesion. Damage to the primary visual cortex (V1) causes a contra-lesional, homonymous loss of conscious vision termed hemianopsia, the loss of one half of the visual field. The goal of this project is to elaborate and refine a rehabilitation protocol for VFD participants. It is hypothesized that visual restoration training using moving stimuli coupled with noninvasive current stimu... Read More

Mental Health Crises in Youth With IDDs
Recruiting
This study is an unmatched, case-control study of 150 youth (Ages 7-17) with a parent reported Intellectual Developmental Disability (IDD) who present to Rady Children's Hospital Emergency Department with a Mental Health Crisis (MHC). Rady Children's Institute for Genomic Medicine (RCIGM) will collect biological samples (such as blood) of these participants to study their genomes, medical and psychiatric profiles to better understand specific characteristics that may predispose them to MHC's. Rectus Sheath Block in Cardiac Surgery
Recruiting
This is a prospective, randomized study. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of post-surgical pain control of a type of peripheral nerve block, Rectus Sheath Block. 1. Does the rectus sheath block decrease opioid consumption postoperatively after cardiac surgery? 2. Does the rectus sheath block decrease VAS pain scores postoperatively after cardiac surgery? Study participants will be assigned to receive either rectus sheath block or no block.

Neuromodulation for a Novel OCD Biomarker and Treatment
Recruiting
Although multiple treatments for OCD exist, slow symptom decrease, high remission, and significant side effects for some OCD patients limit their efficacy. More research into the precise neural mechanisms and linked cognitive functions in OCD is also necessary. To address both concerns, this study by Dr. Reinhart and his team will test a new, non-invasive, and well-tolerated neuromodulation method for reducing OCD symptoms, based on reward-related rhythms of the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC; a brai...
