Effects of Sitagliptin in Individuals With Genetically Decreased DPP4
Recruiting
This is a pilot clinical trial to test the hypothesis that during sitagliptin (DPP4 inhibitor), individuals heterozygous for DPP4 loss of function variants will have a reduction in DPP4 activity and antigen, lower glucose after a mixed meal, and higher levels of intact DPP4 substrates compared to during placebo and compared to matched controls.

Wireless Nerve Stimulation Device To Enhance Recovery After Stroke
Recruiting
Texas Biomedical Device Center (TxBDC) has developed an innovative strategy to enhance recovery of motor and sensory function after neurological injury termed targeted plasticity therapy (TPT). This technique uses brief pulses of vagus nerve stimulation to engage pro-plasticity neuromodulatory circuits during rehabilitation exercises. Preclinical findings demonstrate that VNS paired with rehabilitative training enhances recovery in multiple models of neurological injury, including stroke, spinal... Read More

Cannabinoid Interactions With Central and Peripheral Pain Mechanisms in Osteoarthritis of the Knee
Recruiting
This clinical trial is being done to better understand how daily treatment with Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), Cannabidiol (CBD), or the combination of CBD plus THC affects knee osteoarthritis pain and other related symptoms. Consented participants will have a screening period and visit (up to 30 days to treatment start). If participants pass the screening phase, they will be randomly assigned to take one of the investigational study drugs. For this study, participants will not know when or if the... Read More

Stick2PrEP Cisgender Women and Trans Individuals
Recruiting
Taking a daily anti-HIV pill can protect people from HIV infection. This is called preexposure prophylaxis \[PrEP\]. Many cisgender women and trans individuals do not know this medication is available; others struggle to take the pill every day. It is important to understand attitudes and preferences about HIV prevention options, especially as new options become available. This study plans to evaluate preferences over time among cisgender women and trans individuals who are taking medication to... Read More

Cortisol and Food Insecurity
Recruiting
This study will use a within-subjects design in a sample of individuals with a range of food insecurity recruited from the Los Angeles community (N = 400; 50% men). These participants will then, in counterbalanced order, be exposed to a gold-standard laboratory stressor and a control condition, one month apart. Moderation analyses will test whether cortisol reactivity to the stressor acts as a modulator of the relationship between high levels of food insecurity and increased hyperpalatable food... Read More

Evaluating Home Testing Devices for the Management of Glaucoma
Recruiting
With the advancement in technology we have the opportunity of performing the glaucoma testing at home to monitor the disease. The purpose of this study is evaluating the feasibility and patient acceptance of home testing with head mounted perimetry; detection of progression with head mounted perimetry vs office based perimetry; and monitoring the eye pressure measured by patients at home using a portable tonometer.

PODER Familiar: Health Promotion for Latino Families of Children With IDD
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to test a culturally tailored health promotion intervention for children with IDD and their families. First investigators will conduct a single group design pilot study of a health promotion intervention, followed by second, a small-scale randomized control trial (RCT). of the intervention with Latino parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the Chicago, Illinois and Austin, Texas areas. The following research questions will... Read More

Inhaled Mannitol on Mucociliary Clearance in Moderate to Severe Cystic Fibrosis
Recruiting
This study will provide important mechanistic information regarding the effect of inhaled mannitol (Bronchitol) in people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF) with moderate to severe disease who are already using elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (E/T/I). Many patients have already discontinued hypertonic saline and other pulmonary therapies because of the profound effect of E/T/I of their symptoms and lung function. Further, because both inhaled osmotic agents (i.e., Bronchitol, hypertonic saline \[HS\])... Read More

At-home Walking Cadence Functional Assessment and Recovery Trajectory for Older Adults Undergoing Major Surgery
Recruiting
This is a prospective observational study looking at gait-cadence in older adults who are scheduled to have major abdominal surgery at the University of Chicago. The objective of the study is to evaluate whether gait-cadence, as measured from a patient's mobile device at-home, can provide an accurate assessment of a patient's functional status prior to major abdominal surgery and identify patients at risk of poor functional outcomes.

Intrahepatic and Peripheral Responses to Imdusiran (AB-729) in Chronic Hepatitis B
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the action of Imdusiran (AB-729) in the liver of people with chronic hepatitis B. The main questions it aims to answer are: * how well is it working in the liver * how does Imdusiran affect the hepatitis B virus Participants will receive injections of Imdusiran, one injection every 8 weeks, for a total of 4 doses. They will also undergo 2 liver biopsies: one with the first dose of Imdusiran, and the second 8 weeks after the last dose of Imdusir... Read More

Impact of Direct Current Electrical Stimulation on Treatment of Lumbosacral Radiculopathy
Recruiting
This study will compare two methods of electrical stimulation (alternating current and direct current) as an adjunctive therapy to treating lumbosacral radiculopathy. Both types of electrical stimulation have been used in clinical practice for physical therapy, however direct current stimulation is much less common and there is less known about its impact on physical therapy outcomes. The aim of this project is to show the efficacy of a novel device, the Neubie direct current device, compared to... Read More
