Gastrointestinal Interoception in Anorexia Nervosa
Recruiting
Anorexia nervosa (AN) has among the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness, yet we have a poor understanding of the biological causes of this disorder. In this study, we use a novel mechanosensory intervention to examine the basic question of whether individuals with AN have abnormal "gut sensations" and whether such indicators are associated with adverse consequences from the disorder.

Improving Remote Breathalyzer Procedures Used by Clinicians and Researchers to Remotely Monitor Alcohol Use
Recruiting
Remote breath alcohol monitors have been increasingly adopted for use in clinical, research and forensic settings to monitor alcohol use because they offer several key advantages over other available monitoring methods. However, it remains unknown if remote breathalyzers reliably detect alcohol use because there is up to a 10-hour window of time when breath samples are not obtained (to allow for sleeping). Additionally, the investigators will examine whether a supplemental measurement of a blood... Read More

Counseling Among Gender Diverse Adolescents Who Use Depot Medroxyprogesterone
Recruiting
Recommendations regarding contraceptive counseling and reproductive health differ amongst transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth compared to cis-gender youth. Limited existing literature demonstrates the need for contraceptive counseling that moves beyond cis- and heteronormative assumptions that start with pregnancy prevention and address concerns at the intersection of gender identity. The Investigator's qualitative study will focus on creating best practices regarding equitable contracep... Read More

Study to Evaluate the Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) in the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis
Recruiting
The study is to evaluate the safety, feasibility, and preliminary efficacy of frozen FMT delivery via retention enema compared to lyophilized powder given in oral capsules as induction FMT in subjects with active UC. This study will also determine changes in microbiome (diversity and genera) and proportion of antibody-coated microbiota from baseline to after completion of FMT.

Testing Two Interventions to Improve Health Outcomes and Quality of Life Among Rural Older Adults Living With HIV
Recruiting
Engagement in HIV medical care and adherence to HIV medications are both essential in improving health outcomes among people living with HIV (PLH), but PLH living in rural areas-who suffer higher mortality rates than their urban counterparts-can confront multiple barriers to care engagement and adherence, especially as they face the logistical, medical, and social challenges associated with aging. This project will test the efficacy of two interventions to determine their impact on HIV health ou... Read More

Self-Adhering Magnetic Device to Treat Corneal Exposure
Recruiting
Paralytic lagophthalmos can be difficult to treat and manage. It has a host of causes and effects, one of which (for the latter) is exposure keratopathy. Untreated, this can lead to corneal ulceration, inflammation, and potentially blindness. Despite a variety of attempts at treating this complex condition, none have satisfactorily reduced complications ranging from ease of use to aesthetics. With improvement in magnetic technology, however, that may change. Barmettler et al (2014) have demonstr... Read More

Regulation of Affect and Physiology in Depression
Recruiting
Although treatments for depression are effective for many people, not everyone responds to treatment. This lack of treatment response could be due, in part, to the presence of multiple underlying causes of people's depression. This study aims to identify subtypes of depression, based on two factors: how successful people perceive themselves to be at regulating their affect in everyday life; and how much activity in the parasympathetic nervous system increases during moments when people try to re...
