If a subject agrees to participate, the primary investigators will collect some basic information including age, height, and weight. Intake of some general questions regarding health and each subject will complete some tests that measure walking speed, cognition, and balance. During these tests participants will be asked to stand from a chair, walk up & down a staircase, walk over objects in a forward, backward, and sideways directions, walk around objects in forward and backward directions. After completing those tests, participants will be asked to repeat them while doing another task such as counting out loud, naming objects, or passing an object from one hand to another. At the end of the day, a step counter will be attached to each subject's ankle and you asked to wear it when awake for the next 7 days. Investigators expect that the evaluation will last 1 hour. After 7 days, subjects will return the step counter to the researchers and begin the exercise classes. The exercise classes will occur 2 days per week for 8 weeks. In the class participants will be asked to perform gentle exercises and use memory to improve brain functioning. Each class is expected to last 1 hour. At the conclusion of the exercise classes, investigators will again perform the gait, balance and cognitive tasks as we did before each started the class. Once a subject finishes all the exercise classes and testing, investigators will call one every week to see if you have had any falls at home. The calls will go on for 6 months. Read Less

This study investigates the efficacy of a reading comprehension intervention for English learners in Grades 6 and 7 with reading difficulties. Building on previous intervention studies conducted with students in Grades 4 through 8 over the past 10 years, the investigators utilize a longitudinal, double-cohort design utilizing a randomized control trial assigning students to supplemental reading intervention (RISE) or a no intervention "business as usual" (BAU) comparison condition (i.e., Cohort 1 - Years 1 and 2; 205 students in treatment and 205 in control condition; Cohort 2 - Years 3 and 4; 205 students in treatment and 205 in control condition; total 410 in each condition). Students in each cohort will be treated for 2 years (i.e., 6th and 7th grades or 7th and 8th grades). The primary outcome is reading comprehension. The investigators hypothesize that participants receiving the RISE intervention will outperform those receiving BAU instruction across reading-related elements, including word reading, fluency, and comprehension at end of year two of treatment. Chronic stroke survivors suffering from weaknesses or movement difficulties in their hand/arm are provided a system to aid in at-home rehabilitation for 6 weeks. This rehabilitation system includes a headband that measures and provides feedback from the brain during rehabilitation, together with tablet-based software. Throughout the 6 week rehabilitation period (as well as in a follow-up session 1 month afterwards) several assessments are taken to understand the effect of this rehabilitation on participant's movement abilities, as well as their brain activity. Endovascular middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolization is an emerging treatment for chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH). There is preliminary data to suggest that this minimally invasive therapy may be more efficacious and equally as safe compared to conventional, more invasive surgery. This is a laboratory, non-treatment study. Immune checkpoint inhibitors are a type of immunotherapy that stimulates a patients immune system to fight their cancer. Immune checkpoint inhibitors are standard, FDA approved treatment for certain types of cancers such as melanoma, lung cancer, kidney cancer and bladder cancer. Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) causes pain and limited function that leads to a sedentary lifestyle. The sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, many subjects with KOA have knee pain and sleep disturbance that limit their function, quality of life and cause body fatigue. Walking exercise can benefit people with KOA. However, continues walking for more than 30 minutes can increase pain that may stop people from participation in walking exercise. Interval walking may complete the same amount of walking exercise in several separate time periods, without causing extra pain in people with KOA. Mind-body exercise may improve sleep and pain in people with KOA. This study will help researchers to find out whether the interval walking, or mind-body exercise may help people with KOA to improve their pain, fitness level, sleep quality, exercise participation, fatigue, and quality of life. By doing this study, researchers hope to learn more about the interval walking or mind-body exercise in people with KOA. Read Less

Mutual goal setting and action planning in patients with long-term conditions in outpatient settings is associated with favorable effects on measures of physical health, psychological health, subjective health status, self-management self-efficacy levels, activation levels, and perceived empowerment. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of an educational intervention delivered to the staff nurses of two surgical units on how to engage patients in mutual goal-setting in the acute care setting. Staff nurses from two 32-bed surgical units will be scheduled to attend an hour-long educational intervention. A total of 630 chart audits will be conducted one month prior and one and three months following the intervention per unit, to examine the number of patients with a daily goal recorded in the prior 24 hours and the quality of the recorded goal using the SMART-GEM. The self-efficacy of engaging in mutual goal-setting with patients will be examined by asking nurses to complete the Appraisal Inventory Tool (AIT) prior to and immediately following the intervention. The patient experience of engaging in mutual goal-setting will be examined by having a total of 165 patients complete the Patient Experience of Mutual Goal-Setting Tool (PEMGST) one month prior to the intervention and one and three months following the intervention on each of the two units. This is an observational study to improve the treatment of patients with Sickle Cell Disease Vaso-Occlusive Crisis by administering pain medications more quickly after the patient arrives in the emergency department. Specifically, we are using a sublingual opioid called sufentanil [Dsuvia] that has already been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of acute pain. It is being studied as part of this research study to find out if we can relieve the patients pain more quickly and decrease the amount of time the patient needs to spend in the hospital by avoiding a hospital admission after the patients emergency department encounter if the patients pain is adequately controlled.
