The goal of this study is to refine and test a psychosocial intervention called ASCENT (ACT-based Supportive intervention for patients with CENTral nervous system tumors). This intervention was developed to help patients after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. The main question this study aims to answer is whether this intervention is feasible (i.e., possible to carry out) and acceptable (i.e., considered helpful) to patients. Participants will be asked to take part in 6 coaching sessions and complete short surveys at four different time points. Some participants will be asked to share feedback via interviews. Read Less

This project is intended to collect data using standard clinical tests and psychophysics to quantify the effect of visual cortical damage on the structure of the residual visual system, visual perception, spatial awareness, and brain function. The investigators will also assess the effect of intensive visual retraining on the residual visual system, processing of visual information and the use of such information in real-world situations following damage. This research is intended to improve our understanding of the consequences of permanent visual system damage in humans, of methods that can be used to reverse visual loss, and of brain mechanisms by which visual recovery is achieved. This trial is an adaptive platform trial. The structure of the protocol allows the trial to evolve over time. Multiple investigational arms will be included within the trial under a Master Protocol (MP). These investigational arms may be added as appendices at different times depending on whether they are trial-ready and whether accrual in the trial will support another arm. Accrual to an arm will terminate in accord with the arm's appendix to the Master Protocol. The purpose of this study is to gather information on the effectiveness of a home-based rehabilitation program that also includes health coaching in patients who may suffer from post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). Many patients who are admitted to a hospital ICU suffer from new or worsening symptoms related to their medical condition and ICU care. The proposed research aims to reduce obesity-related health disparities by promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors among African Americans (AAs), given the high disease burdens associated with low physical activity, insufficient sleep, and obesity. There will be two phases to the proposed research. Phase 1 (Aim 1) will encompass formative research and community engagement activities, and Phase 2 (Aim 2a and 2b) will be a randomized clinical trial. The primary goal of Aim 1 is to conduct in-depth qualitative interviews in order to: (1) better understand sleep-related social contextual factors, knowledge, behaviors, and beliefs, and (2) discuss and receive feedback on an existing sleep intervention design and materials. The primary goal of Aim 2 is to explore the feasibility, satisfaction, and preliminary efficacy of a sleep intervention to increase sleep and physical activity (PA) among sedentary and short sleeping (≤6 hrs/night) African American adults with overweight/obesity, compared to a contact control group. (Aim 2a) An additional exploratory (Aim 2b) examines changes in cancer-relevant biomarkers between those who received the intervention vs the control condition (n = 20). Data will be collected from a sample of 20 participants (10 per condition) who volunteer to have their blood drawn pre- and post-intervention. There are two phases of the study, and information gained during Phase 1 (Aim 1) will be used to inform Phase 2 (Aim 2). The investigators are trying to learn more about the personal perceptions and experiences regarding the needs of patients with liver cancer to help improve the care of all patients. The investigators would like to know whether there are needs that patients have or are aware of, especially those needs that the investigators have not been able to address. The investigators aim to develop a program that helps participants and participant's families to navigate the process of being diagnosed with liver cancer and receiving treatment. Read Less

The study is being done to determine if treatment with a novel form of light therapy is tolerated in patients with progressive multiple sclerosis. The goal of this trial to establish the safety profile of this light therapy while generating data on its impact on fatigue, as well as its mechanism of action. Fatigue is often a complex symptom in multiple sclerosis, without any FDA-approved direct therapy. Fatigue is traditionally treated with symptom management through a multidisciplinary team. The overall goal of the WU-PE-CGS is to build a rigorous, scientific evidence base for approaches that direct engagement of cancer patients and post-treatment cancer survivors as participants in cancer research, and to investigate the impact of directly engaging participants in decisions regarding returning of genomic results on participants' health and satisfaction. Participants in this study will be presented with the choice of types of genomic results to receive, and the Engagement Optimization Unit (EOU) will investigate the impact of this intervention on participant knowledge, expectations of benefit, personal utility, and decisional conflict.
