Project SHINE (Sleep Health INitiative for Equity): Culturally Informing a Sleep Extension Intervention for African American Adults
Recruiting
The proposed research aims to reduce obesity-related health disparities by promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors among African Americans (AAs), given the high disease burdens associated with low physical activity, insufficient sleep, and obesity. There will be two phases to the proposed research. Phase 1 (Aim 1) will encompass formative research and community engagement activities, and Phase 2 (Aim 2a and 2b) will be a randomized clinical trial. The primary goal of Aim 1 is to conduct in-depth... Read More

Telephone Support in Advanced Gastrointestinal Cancer
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to see if telephone support programs help patients and their family caregivers adjust to advanced gastrointestinal cancer. A new telephone counseling program that involves practicing strategies for managing stress and symptoms will be compared to a telephone program involving education on quality-of-life issues and psychosocial support. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does our telephone counseling program lower the negative impact of patients' fatigu... Read More

A Study of Alpelisib and Fulvestrant to Treat Endometrial Cancer
Recruiting
This is a 2 stage multi-center study designed to evaluate the efficacy of the combination of alpelisib and fulvestrant in patients with PIK3CA-mutated ER-positive endometrioid endometrial cancers by estimating the objective response rate (ORR). Treatment will continue until either unacceptable toxicity, progression of disease, or investigator/patient request for withdrawal.

Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea With Personalized Surgery in Children With Small Tonsils
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of a novel personalized surgical approach to the standard AT in children with small tonsils (ST). This will be accomplished by randomizing children with ST and OSA to one of these two treatments and comparing outcomes after 6 months. It is the investigators' central hypothesis that a personalized drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE)-directed surgical approach that uses existing procedures to address the specific fixed and dynamic anatomic... Very Low Carbohydrate Diets and Glucagon Response in T1DM
Recruiting
Despite major technological advances, management of type one diabetes mellitus (T1D) remains suboptimal, putting millions of people at risk for immediate and long-term complications. After meals, a mismatch between carbohydrate absorption rate and insulin action typically leads to alternating periods of hyper- and hypoglycemia. A conceptually promising approach to control both problems is dietary carbohydrate restriction to reduce postprandial blood glucose changes and insulin needs. In a prior... Read More

Oximeters and Skin Pigment: Impact of Skin Pigmentation on Accuracy of Pulse Oximetry
Recruiting
Finger pulse oximetry SpO2 is widely used to estimate arterial oxygen saturation SaO2. Current Spo2 targets do not take into consideration the many variables that affect that correlation in particular skin pigmentation. This study aims to evaluate different FDA approved pulse oximeters (Nonin co-pilot, massimo Radical 7, Philips-standard of care monitor, innovo premium iP900BP, nellcor PM1000N, Nano100) with SaO2 reference values obtained by an arterial blood gas in subjects with different skin...
