A Study of Vedolizumab With and Without Upadacitinib in Adults With Crohn's Disease
Recruiting
The main aim of this study is to learn whether vedolizumab and upadacitinib given together (also called dual targeted therapy or DTT) reduces bowel inflammation and ulcers in the bowel compared to vedolizumab only (also called monotherapy) in adults with moderately or severely active Crohn's Disease (CD) after 12 weeks of treatment. Other aims are to learn how safe and effective DTT is compared to monotherapy for these participants.
All participants will receive DTT (either vedolizumab and upad... Read More

Sotagliflozin to Slow Kidney Function Decline in Persons With Type 1 Diabetes and Diabetic Kidney Disease
Recruiting
Powerful new drugs that can prevent or delay end stage kidney disease (ESKD) - so called sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) - are now available for patients with type 2 diabetes. Whether these drugs have similar effects in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) remains unknown because of the few studies in this population, due to concerns about the increase in risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA, a serious, potentially fatal acute complication of diabetes due to the accumulation of s... Virtual Home-based Physical Pre-habilitation in Kidney Transplant Candidates
Recruiting
The goal of this RCT is to address the feasibility of conducting a 12-week virtual pre-habilitation intervention, which includes exercise and education, in kidney transplant candidates. The intervention also includes a 5-month maintenance phase with independent home exercises (maximum of 8 months of intervention/ended early if the participant undergoes a kidney transplant). The main questions it aims to answer are:
* estimate the proportion of screened patients who meet eligibility criteria
* e... Read More

Leucine Requirements During the Menstrual Cycle
Recruiting
The existing guidelines for dietary amino acid intake for women are set the same as those established for men. These recommendations might not be appropriate for women, as they do not take into consideration important differences between male and female physiology, like the menstrual cycle. This study aims to determine the leucine requirements during the phases of the menstrual cycle. Leucine is an essential amino acid (cannot be made naturally in the body) and is necessary for protein synthesis... Read More

Diagnostic and Translational Values of Point-of-care Blood Eosinophils and Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) in People Referred by Primary Care for Suspected Asthma
Recruiting
Asthma is characterised by episodic symptoms (attacks) caused by airway inflammation and decreased airflow to the lungs. It affects 10% of the Canadian population and is the most common chronic disease in childhood. Despite its burden and its potential to be life-threatening, establishing the diagnosis takes time due to difficulty in accessing specialised breathing tests. Indeed, the current diagnostic strategy relies on a breathing test (spirometry) and, if non-diagnostic, a subsequent more com... Read More
