Impact of Vitamin C on opioïd Consumption After an Emergency Department Visit for Acute Musculoskeletal Pain
Recruiting
Recent evidence has shown that vitamin C has some analgesic properties and can therefore reduce opioids used during healing. Vitamin C analgesic effect has been explored mostly during the short-term postoperative context or in disease specific chronic pain prevention but not after acute musculoskeletal injuries, which are often seen in the emergency department (ED). The study's primary aim is to compare the total morphine 5 mg equivalent pills consumed during a two-week follow-up between patien... Read More

Prehabilitation for Colorectal Cancer Patients With Low Functional Capacity and Malnutrition
Recruiting
Despite multi-modal prehabilitation (nutrition, exercise, and psychosocial interventions), 60% of older elective colorectal cancer surgery patients with poor physical function were unable to reach a minimum preoperative 400m six-minute walking distance (6MWD), a prognostic cut-point. Compared to the patients that attained \>400m 6MWD preoperatively, twice as many of \<400m patients were malnourished. Malnutrition has long been associated with worse functioning (e.g., physical, immune). The inves... Read More

Health Literacy in Geriatric Patients
Recruiting
Health Literacy is one's ability to understand health information well enough to make informed decisions about their health. Limited health literacy makes it hard for people to understand complex health issues and follow health care recommendations. Non-Invasive Blood Pressure Monitoring
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to evaluate an alternative way of continuously measuring blood pressure in patients coming for complex surgery. The investigators will directly compare the speed of set up and accuracy of the new ClearSight monitor to those taken by the arterial line monitor, which is the current gold standard for recording blood pressure measurements.

Using Neuroimaging and Behavioral Assessments to Understand Late Talking
Recruiting
Late talkers (LT), representing 10-20% of children under 3, demonstrate hallmark syntax and vocabulary deficits similar to preschoolers with developmental language disorder. While effective and early interventions can mitigate the impact of late talking, not enough is known about its neural basis, yet is needed to inform the design of more individualized interventions. This proposed effort uses neuroimaging, along with behavioral methods, with the goal of better understanding the memory-language... Read More
