Methadone to Treat Painful Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy
Recruiting
Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) or nerve pain, is a painful and debilitating complication which can chronically affect up to 70% of patients who receive chemotherapy. It causes "glove-and-stocking" distribution of nerve-pain, weakness, and other debilitating symptoms. This can affect patient's quality of life, function, ability to tolerate chemotherapy, and return to work. Duloxetine is the only recommended medication to reduce the painful symptoms and consequences of CIPN by... Read More

VR&R: Providing Caregiver Respite by Managing BPSDs and Improving QoL in People with Dementia Using Immersive VR-Therapy
Recruiting
The goal of this interventional trial is to learn about how immersive Virtual Reality (VR) therapy can be used at home by individuals with dementia, with assistance from their informal (e.g., friend/family) caregivers. The main question it aims to answer are: 1. Can caregivers receive quality respite time by using VR-therapy at home with their loved ones with dementia? Does this intervention reduce feelings of burden and improve well-being and resilience for caregivers? 2. Does VR-therapy help... Read More

NC Testing in LC & POTS
Recruiting
Patients with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID (PASC, or "Long COVID") experience cognitive dysfunction. The investigators will test the hypothesis that 999 mL of IV saline will improve cognitive function in patients with POTS and Long COVID compared to placebo (50 mL of saline).

DOnor Milk to REpair the Full-term Infant MIcrobiome in Infants Born Via Cesarean Section.
Recruiting
The objective of this novel study is to establish proof of concept using a pilot randomized controlled trial to determine the effect of DHM compared to formula supplementation on the microbiome in full-term infants who are born via caesarean section and require supplementation. Secondarily, this study aims to compare the infant health outcomes of sleep and growth between groups to assess if these outcomes are mediated by infant feeding type or potential differences in microbial signatures. Focused Suicide Prevention Strategy for Youth Presenting to the Emergency Department with Suicide Related Behaviour
Recruiting
Suicide is the leading cause of death due to illness among Canadian youth, claiming more lives than any medical illness, including cancer. Suicide prevention is possible, and early intervention is needed. The investigators will examine the effectiveness of a previously-piloted, ED-based suicide prevention intervention, across Canadian sites, using a randomized clinical trial design. The investigators will determine whether the patient- and family-centered intervention is more effective than enha... Read More

A Multi-centre Study of Shoe-worn Insoles and Knee Osteoarthritis
Recruiting
Shoe-worn insoles (also known as orthotics) can provide symptomatic relief for people with knee osteoarthritis. However, given they act at the feet, and given that many people with knee osteoarthritis also report foot pain, it is important to assess the effects of these devices at both joints. We will conduct a multi-centre randomized pilot trial to determine feasibility and preliminary efficacy.

Given the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists, the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society has recognized that patients on GLP-1 agonists may have an increased aspiration risk due to a 'full stomach,' even after following preoperative fasting guidelines. In other words, safe fasting timelines are not known in individuals taking GLP-1 agonists, as demonstrated by recent case reports of patients who either retained or regurgitated stomach contents... End Tidal Carbon Dioxide Concentration and Depth of Anesthesia in Children
Recruiting
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a by-product of metabolism and is removed from the body when we breathe out. High levels of CO2 can affect the nervous system and cause us to be sleepy or sedated. Research suggests that high levels of CO2 may benefit patients who are asleep under anesthesia, such as by reducing infection rates, nausea, or recovery from anesthesia . CO2 may also reduce pain signals or the medication required to keep patients asleep during anesthesia; this has not been researched in childr... Read More

Tech-wise Driver (Technology Acceptance of Targeted ADAS for Older Adults)
Recruiting
The tech-wise driver: Exploring the sustained efficacy and technology acceptance of targeted ADAS for older drivers A significant percentage of road traffic fatalities registered in Canada occurred among older adults. According to the studies, the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) can enhance the safety and mitigate the age-related declines of older drivers. Whether sustained use results in declines in driving performance in older drivers relying on ADAS remains largely unexplored. This... Read More

Comprehensive Health Assessment for My Plan: Initial Implementation Study (CHAMP Implementation Study)
Recruiting
The current standard preoperative assessment does not consider the needs of older adults undergoing non-oncological surgery. To enhance the treatment decision-making and planning for older adult surgical patients, the British Geriatric Society and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons recommend the implementation of preoperative GA for all older adults. Geriatric assessment (GA) predicts treatment toxicity and overall mortality in older adults with complex health problems. However, i... Read More
