Evaluating the Effect of Questionnaire Context on the Reporting of Somatic Items Among People with Systemic Sclerosis
Recruiting
There is concern that self-reported depression questionnaires that contain items assessing somatic symptoms may result in biased scores in people with a chronic disease due to symptoms that overlap with their physical disease. However, it has been shown in previous studies that biases associated with somatic items do not affect total depression scores. The reason for this is still unclear but could be associated with the context in which these items are presented.
The goal of this experiment is... Read More

JoyPop Mobile Mental Health App with Indigenous Youth
Recruiting
Indigenous youth in Northwestern Ontario who need mental health supports experience longer waits than non-Indigenous youth within the region and when compared to youth in other more urban areas. Limited access and extended waits can exacerbate symptoms, prolong distress, and increase risk for more serious outcomes. Novel, innovative approaches are urgently needed to provide support for Indigenous youth in Northwestern Ontario. In partnership with Dilico Anishinabek Family Care, the investigators... Read More

Investigating Genetic Status in Patients Presenting to Clinic
Recruiting
The causes of neurodegenerative dementias such as Frontotemporal Dementia, Lewy Body Disease and Alzheimer's disease are still largely unknown. While the contribution of some genetic mutations and polymorphisms is associated with autosomal dominant patterns of inheritance of these dementias, in many cases, the specific causative mutation in these families is not yet identified. Further, in many patients, polygenic risk is thought to give rise to pathophysiologic changes, but which specific genes... Read More

Study to Investigate an Association Between Brain Activity and Tidal Volume in Humans (BATMAN)
Recruiting
The communication between the lungs and the brain has drawn a lot of attention recently. Animal studies have shown that the breathing cycle is coupled with brain activity, showing that the greater the volume of air delivered to the lungs via a breathing machine greater the brain activity and also the greater the injury to the brain cells.
There is no study in humans that investigates the physiological communication between the volume of air delivered to the lungs and brain activity. This is imp... Read More

Biobeat Digital Home Monitoring Feasibility
Recruiting
To assess the feasibility of evaluating postoperative home monitoring with Biobeat digital monitoring. The investigators hypothesize that the Biobeat digital home monitoring platform will lead to a decrease in unplanned visits to the ED (Emergency Department). In addition, patients' quality of life is postulated to be improved compared to patients receiving the current standard of care without home monitoring.

SWiFT Canada (Study of Whole Blood in Frontline Trauma)
Recruiting
Traumatic injuries affect people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The Global Burden of Disease study showed that globally in 2019, there were more than 4.4 million deaths due to injury. Furthermore, unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death for people aged 5-29 years worldwide. Uncontrolled bleeding accounts for a significant proportion of these deaths, with approximately 20% occurring in the first 24 hours and 40% occurring within the first 30 days.

Cervical Plexus Hydrodissection With D5W for PTSD
Recruiting
PTSD is a chronic mental health condition that drastically reduces an individual's quality of life Dextrose injection with a small needle has been used for chronic pain patients and observational results have shown it to be effective in reducing anxiety, brain fog, and depression in patients with PTSD. This randomized trial will compare dextrose injection with a delayed/usual treatment control.

Effects of Compression Stockings in Asthma Symptoms At Night
Recruiting
Nocturnal worsening of asthma is common. It is characterized by overnight exacerbation of asthma symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest tightness, coughing, and wheezing, increased need of asthma medications and airway hyperresponsiveness, and decline in lung function (1). Nocturnal asthma has been attributed in part to circadian variations in lung function and airway inflammation. However, other factors including sleep, supine posture and lung volume may also contribute to nocturnal asthma... Read More
