It is important to diagnose pulmonary embolism in a timely manner to prevent death and long-term disability. More than half a million people (4-5% of emergency department patients) are tested for pulmonary embolism, although the positive rate is low. Imaging for PE testing exposes patients to radiation, is expensive, adds time to the emergency visit, and can lead to a false positive diagnoses. Existing protocols aimed at reducing unnecessary pulmonary embolism imaging are complex and seldom used by emergency physicians. Too many patients undergo unnecessary pulmonary embolism imaging. A new tool (called Adjust-Unlikely) could safely reduce pulmonary embolism imaging in Canada. A research group composed of researchers, emergency physicians, and patients developed the Adjust-Unlikely clinical decision rule: a rule which has been customized for emergency physicians and emergency patients. Adjust-Unlikely is highly sensitive at the bedside, meaning there are very few false negative results. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of an online 9-week group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT; a type of talking therapy) intervention that is co-led by public health nurses (PHNs) and individuals who have previously recovered (i.e., lay peers) from postpartum depression (PPD) for treating PPD when delivered in addition to treatment as usual (TAU) compared to TAU alone. The study will also assess the impact of the intervention on common comorbidities (anxiety) and complications (parenting stress, mother-infant relationship, social support, and infant temperament) of PPD and whether it is cost-effective. In Canada, 1,700,000 adults are at risk of dementia, half of them with MCI,representing one of the largest groups at risk for an incurable disease. Epidemiological evidence suggests up to 40% of dementia cases might be preventable by targeting modifiable lifestyle and cardiovascular factors. Given that current treatments cannot modify the disease, prevention is critical. SYNERGIC-2 offers a "personalized multidomain intervention" that combines physical and cognitive training, sleep, diet, and vascular-metabolic interventions in individuals with MCI to synergistically enhance their overall brain health including cognition and contributes to maintaining their independence. Importantly, interventions will be provided at home using an existing virtual platform reducing delivery complexity and expanding the accessibility to a wider population, thus decreasing potential inequities. The investigators are studying a new rehabilitation treatment for individuals trying to recover walking after spinal cord injury (SCI). The investigators will test conditions in the blood and spinal fluid to determine the best time to start this new training program. This will include checking for certain features called biomarkers by testing participants' spinal fluid and blood and compare these features to individuals without SCI. These features will help investigators determine when to start the new training program, either right away or waiting for 3 months. The new training program uses walking downhill on a slight slope on a treadmill while muscles that are not working normally are stimulated to contract using low levels of electricity. Adding this stimulation will allow people to practice walking and other skills even though full muscle control has not recovered. This new program will be in addition to any other rehabilitation therapy and will not replace standard rehabilitation. The hope is to see if downhill training with muscle stimulation, when delivered at the most ideal time, will improve trunk and leg movement, walking, and overall function. This recovery of movement and function will be compared to people with SCI receiving standard rehabilitation alone. Certain regions of the brain and spinal cord will also be studied using MRI scans to determine if these are affected by the training and compare to individuals without SCI. The total length of the study for SCI participants will be up to 16 weeks if in the standard of care group and up to 33 weeks if in the trained group. The Quantum Menstrual Health Monitoring Study will measure four key reproductive hormones in the urine to characterize patterns that predict and confirm ovulation, referenced to serum hormones and the gold-standard of the ultrasound day of ovulation in participants with regular cycles. These normal cycles will provide a reference for comparison to irregular cycles in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and athletes. More than 5 million people live with Alzheimer's dementia (AD) in North America. No effective treatment exists yet probably because by the time AD has developed it is too late to intervene. Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a clinical state that typically precedes AD. In MCI, the prefrontal cortex supports compensatory mechanisms that depend on robust synaptic plasticity and that delay progression to AD. Using a neurostimulation approach that enhances prefrontal cortical plasticity in vivo, this project aims to enhance prefrontal cortical plasticity and function in patients with MCI. If successful, this project would discover a treatment modality that enhances compensation in MCI and ultimately, prevents progression to AD. Read Less

The aging population is steadily increasing, partly due to increasing life expectancy. At the same time, chronic diseases, including those affecting the musculoskeletal system (e.g., osteoarthritis), whose prevalence increases with age, limit the daily activities of those affected and thus affect more and more people. Arthrosis is the most common form of these diseases worldwide. According to the l'Institut de la statistique du Québec, nearly one in two Quebecers aged 15 and over is affected by a chronic health problem. Knee orthosis is one form of treatment that helps patients suffering from knee gonarthrosis. This treatment aims to compensate for certain biomechanical deficits in patients. A variety of joint configurations exists to target specific biomechanical deficits. A constant challenge for companies manufacturing orthoses is transmitting the orthosis's biomechanical effect to the patient. The desired effect requires a change in the forces applied inside the knee, but the orthosis cannot directly transmit forces to the patient's bones due to its external nature to the body. Customization of orthoses is crucial to improve the transmission of the biomechanical effect as well as tolerance to it.
