The state of California currently has 72 active clinical trials seeking participants for Depression research studies. These trials are conducted in various cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Sacramento.
A Closed Loop, Doctor to Patient, Mobile Application for Depression in People With Multiple Sclerosis
Recruiting
The researchers want to find out if an electronic application called MS CATCH can enhance patients' and doctors' experiences during and in between clinical visits. MS CATCH is a smartphone-based tool which allows patients to enter their mood related symptoms at regular intervals, which is then available to their Neurologist in their electronic medical record. The neurologist is also able to view additional information from their medical record, and receives alerts for changes reported by the pat... Read More

Evaluating Process of Change in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Depression
Recruiting
This study will compare two psychological treatments for major depressive disorder (MDD): cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Both treatments are well-studied and supported by evidence as effective options for people experiencing depression. These treatments will be delivered in an online group format via Zoom. The study will enroll up to 150 participants with depression. Half of the participants will receive online group CBT and half will receive onl... Read More

The Rapid Diagnosis of MCI and Depression in Patients Ages 60 and Over
Recruiting
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) leading to Alzheimer's disease and related disorders (ADRD) represents a significant health and economic burden of the rapidly expanding senior population. The accurate detection and diagnosis of MCI and its common comorbidity, late-life depression (LLD), is essential for prolonging patient quality of life and developing advancements in research and treatment options. The purpose of the proposed program is to refine Miro Health's A.I. to accurately detect, differe... Read More

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for Combating the Effects of Race-Related Stress Among Black Adolescents
Recruiting
The current study seeks to build on previous research that demonstrates the efficacy of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in combating stigma by investigating the feasibility and acceptability of a protocol to support Black adolescents and young adults in coping with race related stress. The study will consist of a small, purposeful, non-randomized sample (N = 30) of clients enrolled into a 10-session Acceptance and Commitment Therapy group. The group will be offered as part of regular clinical... Read More

Personalized Need-focused Single Session Intervention
Recruiting
This is a two-site randomized controlled trial, with two goals. First, the investigators aim to demonstrate that single-session interventions for mild-to-moderate anxiety and depression can generate statistically significant symptom change as a main effect across control and experimental (i.e. personalized) conditions. Second, the investigators hope to establish the additional incremental efficacy of personalization via person-specific intensive longitudinal data collection and analysis.

Affect Treatment for Depression and Anxiety
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and mediators of change in Positive Affect Treatment, a psychotherapy specifically aimed at enhancing reward sensitivity in individuals with low positive affect (a core feature of anhedonia) in the context of depression or anxiety. Target enrollment is 100 male and female participants with low positive affect and depression or anxiety and impaired functioning, between the ages of 18 and 65 years, who will be randomized to either Positive Aff... Low-Dose Intravenous Ketamine for Adolescents With Depression and Suicidal Ideation in the Emergency Department
Recruiting
The goal of this study is to test whether a single low-dose of IV ketamine given in the emergency department to adolescents with treatment-resistant depression and suicidal ideation can reduce depression symptoms and suicidal thoughts compared to placebo. Participants will complete depression scales at baseline, and 1 hour, 3 hours, 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days after receiving the treatment.

Microbiome, Anxiety and Cognitive Orientation Study
Recruiting
Mounting evidence shows that the gut microbiome plays an important role in communication within the gut-brain axis. However, the relationship between gut microbiota and their influence on anxiety is still not fully understood. Recent studies on mice found a specific microbe-produced molecule, 4-ethylphenyl sulfate (4EPS), can induce anxious behavior. 4EPS is produced by gut microbes in mice and humans. Research suggests higher 4EPS levels may strongly be associated with anxiety levels. However,... Read More

Pupillary Unrest as an Indicator of Central Opioid Effect in Subjects 40-60 Years of Age
Recruiting
This study will establish the relationship between magnitude of opioid exposure and a pupillary measure referred to as PUAL (pupillary unrest in ambient light), in subjects aged 40-60. Previous investigation demonstrated that loss of PUAL was a sensitive, discriminative indicator of opioid toxicity and respiratory depression among subjects aged 20-40 years old. Population data indicate that pupil size and PUAL decline slightly with age. The investigators will explore whether PUAL proves to be a... Read More

Validation of myStrength's Macropersonalization Engine
Recruiting
This is a study to validate myStrength's macropersonalization algorithm. Specifically, the study seeks to answer: Does myStrength's macropersonalization algorithm match what a clinician would offer as a diagnosis following an expert assessment? Participants will be treatment-seeking adults, ages 18 to 65, recruited from an evidence-based group psychotherapy practice. Participants will be asked to complete myStrength onboarding and a clinician-conducted initial assessment. Inter-rater reliability... Read More

Health and Health Care Utilization Effects of Medical Debt Forgiveness
Recruiting
The goal of this study is to estimate the direct, causal impact of medical debt on health care utilization, mental health, and wellbeing of patients. The investigators will conduct a survey to measure the impact of the debt forgiveness on health care use, mental health, and wellbeing. The survey will be administered to approximately 17,000 subjects of a recent medical financial intervention. In that prior intervention, a non-profit charity, RIP Medical Debt, purchased and abolished medical debt... Read More
