The state of California currently has 85 active clinical trials seeking participants for Healthy research studies. These trials are conducted in various cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Sacramento.
Alternation in the Human Microbiome With Commonly Used Topical Medications
Recruiting
The global aim of this study is to investigate how the human microbiome changes from baseline with commonly used topical medications such as topical antifungals, low to mid potency topical steroids and emollients. The specific aims are as follows: 1. Investigate whether ketoconazole cream, a commonly used topical antifungal, causes alterations in the human skin microbiome with short-term use. 2. Investigate whether desonide 0.05 % ointment, a commonly used low potency topical steroid, alters t... Read More

Impact of OnabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX®) on Stress
Recruiting
The purpose of this prospective single-center, blinded\*, randomized, proof-of-concept study is to determine whether OnabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX®) injections will change the level of stress perceived by generally healthy adult female participants. It is hypothesized that BOTOX® injections will be associated with decreases in perceived stress levels, measured by scores on the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaire. The primary outcome measure is a chronological decrease in PSS scores between an... Read More

Single-tracer Multiparametric PET Imaging
Recruiting
The overarching goal of this project is to develop and evaluate a single-tracer multiparametric positron emission tomography (PET) imaging solution for simultaneous imaging of blood flow and glucose metabolism using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) alone. The investigators working hypothesis is that quantitative blood flow can be extracted from dynamic 18F-FDG PET data by use of tracer kinetic modeling, in addition to glucose metabolism that 18F-FDG is conventionally used for.

The Healthy Elderly Longevity Cohort
Recruiting
With the completion of the human genome project, investigators can now explore new questions in human biology. Previously human genetics focused on highly penetrant, Mendelian traits; however, now rare and common variants can be discovered that affect "common" diseases that have multi-gene architecture with variable penetrance such as breast cancer, diabetes mellitus, and coronary artery disease. This change took place because investigators now have the tools to illuminate the whole genome at on... Read More

Addressing Diabetes by Elevating Access to Nutrition
Recruiting
The goal of ADELANTE is to determine whether a multi-level intervention to improve household food insecurity and glycemic control is effective for Latino patients with diabetes. Specifically, ADELANTE aims to 1. determine whether weekly household food delivery plus an intensive lifestyle intervention is more effective than usual care for improving glycemic control (HbA1c) at 6 months, 2. examine the effects of the multi-level intervention on = household food insecurity, dietary behaviors, and...
