Scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity affecting the orientation and position of the spine. Locally, the shape of the vertebra is also affected. The most common form is adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) with a prevalence of 1-3% affecting primarily young adolescent females. AIS can either be treated using a brace and in some cases necessitate surgical correction to prevent progressive deformity. Risk factors for progression include female gender, curve magnitude and location, skeletal maturity and growth velocity. However, these risk factors have been shown to be inconsistent in predicting curve progression. Over the past 6 years, the investigators have developed a predictive model of the final Cobb angle in AIS based on 3D spinal parameters. This analysis was based on a prospective cohort of 195 patients that were enrolled upon their initial visit and followed until maturity. This predictive model has a determination coefficient of 0.702. The proposed new study aims at refining and testing the external validity of this model in a larger cohort. The next step towards using the new model in the clinical setting is to redesign the model and to externally validate the model by measuring the agreement between the new method and the traditional Cobb angle at maturity in a larger multicenter study. The objective of this study is to characterize the risk of scoliosis progression based on local three-dimensional vertebral and pelvic measurements present on initial evaluation. Three-dimensional reconstructions will be derived from stereo-radiographs acquired with a new biplanar low-dose radiographic system installed in all 8 clinical sites (EOS system, EOS-Imaging, Paris). These calibrated radiographs will then be used to reconstruct the vertebrae and intervertebral disks at each level as well as the geometry of the pelvis. A series of local and regional parameters will then be calculated from these 3D reconstructions. Correlation analysis will help determine if intervertebral disk wedging, vertebral wedging, transverse plane rotation or pelvic geometry can be used as early predictors of curve progression in AIS. Identifying a new 3D measure of scoliosis associated with rapid curve progression could help predict which curves need early treatment to prevent further progression. The ultimate goal of this research project will be to validate this new predictive model and finally transfer this new predictive tool in the hands of clinicians treating AIS. Read Less

The study is a randomized, placebo-controlled design with the opioid antagonist, oral naltrexone. Following random assignment, participants will take 50mg of naltrexone or placebo once a day for 7 days. On days 1 - 7, participants complete reports of their feelings of social connection and mood in order to assess more naturalistic feelings in response to opportunities for social connection outside of the laboratory setting. Additionally, at the end of each day, they complete a physical symptoms questionnaire. On the 7th day, participants will come to the SDSU MRI scanning facility to complete tasks designed to elicit feelings of social connection in the fMRI scanner. This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of trametinib and everolimus in treating pediatric and young adult patients with gliomas that have come back (recurrent). Trametinib acts by targeting a protein in cells called MEK and disrupting tumor growth. Everolimus is a drug that may block another pathway in tumor cells that can help tumors grow. Giving trametinib and everolimus may work better to treat low and high grade gliomas compared to trametinib or everolimus alone. Read Less

Gender diverse individuals who use gender-affirming testosterone therapy (GATT) to reduce gender dysphoria may also use progestins for contraception and to manage or suppress uterine bleeding. Research is limited, however, regarding expected bleeding patterns for individuals who choose to initiate GATT concurrently with a progestin. Clinicians who prescribe GATT do not have sufficient data to adequately counsel patients on side effects of concurrent progestin use and therefore extrapolate from studies conducted in cisgender women. This study is a prospective cohort study evaluating bleeding patterns and satisfaction among patients initiating GATT with or without concurrent initiation of a progestin contraceptive. The results from this study will enable clinicians to more accurately counsel patients using GATT on how the use of a progestin might affect their bleeding and whether this differs by progestin method. The objective of this trial is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Amulet LAA occluder compared to NOAC therapy in patients with non-valvular AF at increased risk for ischemic stroke and who are recommended for long-term NOAC therapy. The clinical investigation is a prospective, randomized, multicenter active control worldwide trial. Subjects will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio between the Amulet LAA occlusion device ("Device Group") and a commercially available NOAC medication ("Control Group"). The proposed study aims to compare concussion recovery in those supplementing creatine and those not supplementing creatine. Specific aim 1: To compare number of days until asymptomatic between those taking creatine vs. those not taking creatine following a concussion. Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that individuals taking creatine will become asymptomatic sooner than those not taking creatine.Specific aim 2: To compare typical concussion assessment scores (i.e., symptom score, mental status, neurocognition, balance, motor coordination, and visual performance) between those taking creatine vs those not taking creatine following a concussion once asymptomatic.Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that individuals taking creatine will have better symptom scores, balance, mental status, and neurocognition assessment scores than those not taking creatine once asymptomatic. The investigators will calculate descriptive statistics for all demographic, days to asymptomatic, and concussion assessments. For specific aim 1, The investigators will calculate a t-test to determine if days to asymptomatic differed in those taking creatine vs. those not taking creatine. For specific aim 2, the investigators will calculate t-tests with Bonferonni corrections to determine if concussion assessment scores (Sport Concussion Office Assessment Tool-6 assessments, CNS Vital Signs, visual assessment) differed in those taking creatine vs. those not taking creatine. Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic and often painful inflammatory skin disease which includes the forming of lumps, abscesses and scars in areas of the skin such as under the breasts, under armpits, inner thighs, groin and buttocks. Despite the clinical benefit anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) therapy offers to patients with HS, there remains a significant unmet medical need for patients who fail to achieve adequate benefit with anti-TNF therapy. This study will compare lutikizumab (ABT-981) versus placebo for the treatment of adult participants with moderate to severe HS who have failed anti-TNF therapy. Lutikizumab (ABT-981) is an investigational drug being developed for the treatment of HS. In the Main Study, participants will be put in 1 of 4 groups, called treatment arms. There is a 1 in 4 chance that participants will be assigned to placebo. Around 160 adult participants with moderate to severe HS who have failed anti-TNF therapy will be enrolled in the study at approximately 50 sites worldwide. In the Sub-study, participants will be put in 1 of 2 groups, called treatment arms. Both arms will receive treatment at different dosing intervals. Around 40 adult participants with moderate to severe HS who are naïve to biologic therapy will be enrolled in the study at certain sites. In the Main Study, participants will receive subcutaneous injections of lutikizumab (ABT-981) or placebo every week for 16 weeks. In the Sub-study, participants will receive subcutaneous injections of lutikizumab (ABT-981) every week for the first 15 weeks, then either every week or every other week for 36 weeks. There may be higher treatment burden for participants in this trial compared to their standard of care. Participants will attend regular visits during the study at a hospital or clinic. The Fabry Registry is an ongoing, international multi-center, strictly observational program that tracks the routine clinical outcomes for patients with Fabry disease, irrespective of treatment status. No experimental intervention is involved; patients in the Registry undergo clinical assessments and receive care as determined by the patient's treating physician. The primary objectives of the Registry are: To enhance the understanding of the variability, progression, and natural history of Fabry disease, including heterozygous females with the disease; To assist the Fabry medical community with the development of recommendations for monitoring patients and reports on patient outcomes to help optimize patient care; To characterize and describe the Fabry population as a whole; To evaluate the long-term safety and effectiveness of Fabrazyme® Fabry Pregnancy Sub-registry: This Sub-registry is a multicenter, international, longitudinal, observational, and voluntary program designed to track pregnancy outcomes for any pregnant woman enrolled in the Fabry Registry, regardless of whether she is receiving disease-specific therapy (such as enzyme replacement therapy with agalsidase beta) and irrespective of the commercial product with which she may be treated. Data from the Sub-registry are also used to fulfill various global regulatory requirements, to support product development/reimbursement, and for other research and non-research-related purposes. No experimental intervention is given; thus a patient will undergo clinical assessments and receive standard of care treatment as determined by the patient's physician. If a patient consents to this Sub-registry, information about the patient's medical and obstetric history, pregnancy, and birth will be collected, and, if a patient consents to data collection for her infant, data on infant growth through month 36 postpartum will be collected. The ICGG Gaucher Registry is an ongoing, international multi-center, strictly observational program that tracks the routine clinical outcomes for patients with Gaucher disease, irrespective of treatment status. No experimental intervention is involved; patients in the Registry undergo clinical assessments and receive care as determined by the patient's treating physician. The objectives of the Registry are: To enhance understanding of the variability, progression, identification, and natural history of Gaucher disease, with the ultimate goal of better guiding and assessing therapeutic intervention. To assist the Gaucher medical community with the development of recommendations for monitoring patients, and to provide reports on patient outcomes, to optimize patient care. To characterize the Gaucher disease population. To evaluate the long-term effectiveness of imiglucerase and of eliglustat.
