Behavioral and Neural Correlates of Post-Stroke Fatigue
Recruiting
The goal of this phase I/II clinical trial is to determine the behavioral and neural effects of 5-daily transcranial direct current stimulation on post-stroke fatigue. The three aims are:
Aim 1: Investigate the behavioral effect of 5 daily sessions of anodal tDCS over the ipsilesional M1 on PSF.
Aim 2: Investigate the neurophysiological effect of 5 daily sessions of anodal tDCS over the ipsilesional M1.
Aim 3: Determine the relationship between changes in M1 excitability, brain connectivity a... Read More

Healthy Lifestyles After Cancer for Adolescents and Young Adults: A Program to Reduce Cardiovascular Risk Factors
Recruiting
There are close to 700,000 survivors of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer (aged 15 to 39 at diagnosis) in the US. Survivorship for AYAs is often complicated by long-term and late-effects. Cardiovascular disease (CVD), in particular, is a leading cause of death for cancer survivors and is a growing public health concern for survivors diagnosed as AYAs. Risk of CVD may be associated with treatment exposures and may be potentiated by weight gain and poor health behaviors. Healthy eating and p... Read More

Exercise to ReGain Stamina and Energy (The EXERGISE Study)
Recruiting
About 20%-70% of breast cancer survivors experience fatigue after cancer therapy. Because epidemiologic evidence shows that old age is a risk factor for fatigue in adults with cancer history, older breast cancer survivors suffer from even more fatigue than younger survivors. The purpose of this study is to test types of walking exercise interventions and their ability to reduce fatigue in older breast cancer survivors.

Neuromodulation and Fatigue
Recruiting
In this project, we aim to determine any potential effects of a weak electrical current applied to the neck or thoracic area on functional capacity and muscle activation. Healthy individuals will participate in one familiarization followed by three experimental sessions. Fatigability and motor function will be assessed in each test session.

Virtual Reality at End-of-life
Recruiting
The purpose of this research is to determine the effect that repeated, personalized virtual reality experiences have on symptom severity, comparing self-reported symptom severity both pre and post each session, and overtime across sessions. We will also determine if this intervention results in a high rating of presence in VR, and if presence is related to the magnitude of the change in symptoms.

Fatigue in Short-Haul Operations
Recruiting
The purpose of the present study is to assess fatigue levels of short-haul pilots during normal operations. The investigators will collect objective and subjective sleep, sleepiness, workload, and performance data from on-duty pilots during short-haul flight operations. Data will be collected during days off prior to the trip start, during flights, and during days off following the flight operations.

A Trial to Assess the Effect of Transfusion Strategies on Fatigability Levels After Hospital Discharge
Recruiting
This study is a randomized controlled trial in which hospitalized patients with anemia are randomized to receive transfusion at: a) Hb<9g/dL (liberal transfusion strategy), or b) Hb<7g/dL (restrictive transfusion strategy). We are measuring self-reported fatigability, fatigue, and activity levels at randomization and 7 days post hospital discharge in both trial arms. In a subset of 75 patients in each trial arm (150 total), we will are administering the 6 Minute Walk Test at randomization and 7... Read More

Electrical Stimulation for Post Acute COVID-19 Syndrome
Recruiting
The purpose of the pilot study is to examine acceptability and proof of concept effectiveness of a wireless TENS technology to address PACS associated FM. Sample size (n=40) is convenient and designed to explore acceptability and feasibility. Eligible participants will be screened at the BCM Post-COVID-19 Clinic for inclusion criteria. Participants, who satisfy the inclusion and exclusion criteria and sign the informed consent form will be randomly assigned with ratio of 1:1 into two groups. One... Read More

The Effect of Motor Imagery on Balance in Persons With Multiple Sclerosis
Recruiting
This study will investigate if the use of motor imagery to practice a balance task is as effective as physically practicing balance tasks as measured by the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) in persons with MS. A secondary purpose is to investigate if using a motor imagery balance intervention will limit fatigue typically experienced with physical movement in this population.
