The state of Illinois currently has 64 active clinical trials seeking participants for Pain research studies. These trials are conducted in various cities, including Chicago, Peoria, Springfield and Urbana.
Buprenorphine, Clonidine, and Dexamethasone on Duration of Brachial Plexus Blocks for Upper Extremity Surgery
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if there is a difference in morphine requirements in patients after upper extremity surgeries including shoulder arthroscopy. The main question it aims to answer is whether there is a difference between Interscalene brachial plexus blocks with the addition of buprenorphine, dexamethasone, and clonidine and the same block without the adjuvant.

Surgical Treatments for Postamputation Pain
Recruiting
This is a double-blind randomised controlled trial (RCT) which compares the effectiveness of three surgical techniques for alleviating residual limb pain (RLP), neuroma pain and phantom limb pain (PLP). The three surgical treatments are Targeted Muscles Reinnervation (TMR), Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface (RPNI), and an active control (neuroma excision and muscle burying). Patients will be follow-up for 4 years.

Dilution of Verapamil During Intraarterial Administration
Recruiting
This study will be a randomized, single-blind, prospective trial designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intra-arterial (IA) Verapamil diluted with normal saline compared to undiluted IA Nicardipine during transradial access (TRA) for percutaneous coronary angiography. Patients who are 18 years or older and undergoing non-emergent percutaneous coronary angiography via TRA will be included. Patients who are non-English speaking, pregnant, or intubated will be excluded. Patients will be ra... Read More

Optimizing the Use of Ketamine to Reduce Chronic Postsurgical Pain
Recruiting
The study utilizes a 3-arm placebo-controlled RCT to study the effectiveness of ketamine in reducing chronic post-mastectomy pain. Participants randomized to the first arm will receive a 0.35 mg/kg dose after induction, followed by a 0.25 mg/kg/hr infusion during surgery (up to a maximum of 6 hours) and continued for 2 hours postoperatively. Participants in the second arm will receive a single dose of 0.6 mg/kg of ketamine in the post-anesthesia care unit, and the final group will serve as the c... Read More

IPACK on Early Pain Scores After ACL Reconstruction
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether using an anesthetic technique called IPACK block will control pain after ACL reconstruction surgery. The main questions it aims to answer are: if participants who receive the IPACK block prior to ACL reconstruction experience less pain after surgery and at 1 day after surgery if participants who receive the IPACK block prior to ACL reconstruction require less short-term opioid use immediately after surgery and up to one week after surgery. Patient Outcomes Collection: How Can we do Better?
Recruiting
Patient reported outcomes (PROs) are widely used by clinical providers as important tools to help inform their clinical and research practice, and to improve quality of care for patients. In this study, the investigators aim to investigate ways by which patient PRO completion rates may be improved.

Hip Arthroscopy Postoperative Opioid Demands
Recruiting
This study will be a prospective, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial (RCT), investigating the influence of the number of opioid pills prescribed following primary hip arthroscopy. All patients who sign the consent form will be enrolled in the suited and randomized to one of the two treatment arms. The intervention group will receive 5 Norco pills, gabapentin (30 mg, once daily for 10 days following surgery), and Tylenol (1000 mg, three times daily for 10 days following surgery) while th... Project 1 Aim 2, Adaptations of the Brain in Chronic Pain With Opioid Exposure
Recruiting
This study is designed to track brain functional changes in individuals with i) chronic back pain + opioid use (CBP+O) and individuals with ii) chronic back pain + opioid misuse disorder (CBP+mOUD) following a brief drug delay and re-exposure manipulation. Re-exposure could be placebo, the participant's own opioid dose, or a dopaminergic treatment (DA+NSAID). The participants will be also evaluated for changes in cognition, emotion, and motor abilities with opioid delay and re-exposure to placeb... Read More

ED Physical Therapy for Acute Low Back Pain
Recruiting
Emergency department (ED)-initiated physical therapy is a rapidly growing resource and represents a promising treatment approach to low back pain. This clinical trial will evaluate an innovative model of an emergency department "embedded" physical therapist to treat patients with acute low back pain, with a focus on improving patient functioning and reducing opioid use.

Sciatic Block in Contralateral Limb Phantom and Residual Limb Pain
Recruiting
Participants with chronic, refractory phantom limb pain (PLP) or residual limb pain (RLP) for more than 6 months will be enrolled in this clinical trial. Aim: Define the attributable pain relief and functional improvement in participants with PLP/RLP after contralateral limb sciatic nerve block. Also, contribute to the basic science understanding of the crossed-withdraw reflex by demonstrating a known animal model phenomenon in human participants. Hypothesis: Contralateral limb sciatic nerve ane... Read More
