Parkinson's Disease Clinical Trials in Cambridge, MA

Subjects will receive prototype devices to be used for participation. The study comprises three phases: 1. Alpha phase: Two remote study visits and an in-home period to gather device usability data on the alpha system. The at home period for this phase will be 2 weeks. This phase will be used to confirm that the device and labeling are suitable for in-home use. 2. Beta Phase B1: Beta Phase B1 will be conducted using the beta devices for two in-person or remote, 60 to 90-minute, visits. This phase will be used to assess design changes between alpha and beta versions. 3. Beta Phase B2: Seven remote visits and in-home usage to gather usability and efficacy data on the beta system in-home. Beta Phase B2 will be conducted using the beta devices for 12 weeks. The investigators are studying if Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS) can improve various symptoms, including movement problems, thinking abilities, mood, fatigue, freezing while walking, voice quality, and issues with smell and taste. Previous research suggests TPS might help in Alzheimer's disease and could be helpful for Parkinson's as well. Investigators will check if TPS is safe, practical, and if it makes a noticeable difference in these symptoms compared to before the treatment. Read Less

Parkinson's disease (PD) impacts different types of neural oscillations in the brain, including beta (13-30Hz) and gamma oscillations (30-80Hz), which contributes to PD's cardinal symptoms of resting tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia (slowness of movement), and gait instability. The investigators' lab has developed a non-invasive method of increasing gamma power in the brain using Gamma Entrainment Using Sensory Stimulation (GENUS) through light, sound, and tactile stimulation devices. For this study, 40 participants with mild Parkinson's disease will be recruited, and the investigators will assess their brain waves with electroencephalogram (EEG) before, during, and after light, sound, and tactile stimulation to determine the safety, feasibility, and optimization of GENUS as a potential therapy in the PD population.
