Opioid Dispensing Device for Post-Operative Pain in Cancer Patients
Recruiting
This research study will evaluate the use of, and participants experience with, a new device called Addinex that safely stores and dispenses opioid medication. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of the Addinex device in cancer patients undergoing cancer-related surgery that require pain control with opioids after the surgery. Participants will be asked to answer questions about their medical history and background, fill out questionnaires, use a mobile application associated with t... Read More

Encouraging Abstinence Behavior in a Drug Epidemic: Optimizing Dynamic Incentives
Recruiting
Combatting the rise of the opioid epidemic is a central challenge of U.S. health care policy. A promising approach for improving welfare and decreasing medical costs of people with substance abuse disorders is offering incentive payments for healthy behaviors. This approach, broadly known as "contingency management" in the medical literature, has repeatedly shown to be effective in treating substance abuse. However, the use of incentives by treatment facilities remains extremely low. Furthermore... Read More

Opioid Use After Laparoscopic Salpingectomy
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to evaluate patient-reported post-operative pain scores following minimally invasive tubal sterilization procedures to determine if a multimodal, non-opioid pain control regimen is non-inferior to a pain control regimen including opioids.
The study team hypothesizes that with extensive counseling on pain management, multimodal medication use, and expectation with non-opioid methods can effectively eliminate the need for opioid prescriptions after laparoscopic salpin... Read More

Effects of Erector Spinae Plane Block on Postoperative Pain Following Lumbar Fusion Surgery
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to determine if the method for injecting local anesthesia affects patients' pain and opioid usage after surgery. The investigators will compare subcutaneous anesthesia, injections of anesthesia under the skin, to a method called erector spinae plane block (ESPB). An ESPB injection involves placing local anesthesia along the muscles and bones in the back, using a special type of x-ray called fluoroscopy for guidance. The Investigators will use patient reported outcome... Read More

Managing Opioid Related Sleep Apnea With Acetazolamide
Recruiting
Patients with chronic pain who use opioids appear to be at increased risk for breathing issues during sleep, termed sleep disordered breathing (SDB). Treatment of SDB often consists of use of a device during sleep that provides continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) via a mask interface. However, this device is not effective or tolerated in all individuals. The goal of this study is to examine whether a medication called acetazolamide can improve SDB, as an alternative to CPAP treatment.
