COVID19 Paid Clinical Trials in North Carolina

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of repurposed medications (study drug(s) in reducing symptoms of non-hospitalized participants with mild to moderate COVID-19. Participants will receive either study drug or placebo. Participants will self-report any new or worsening symptoms or medical events experienced while taking study drug or placebo. This study is intended to be all remote with no in person visits, unless the study team feels it is in the best interest of a participant to be seen in person. Prior and current drug arms are listed on clinicaltrials.gov and will be updated with the activation of any new drug arms. The goal of this cluster randomized clinical trial is to test the efficacy of messaging interventions to increase booster vaccine uptake in adults in the emergency department(ED). The main question[s] and goals of this study are: does the intervention of vaccine messaging increase booster vaccine uptake at 30 days post ED visit? does the intervention of asking about vaccine acceptance increase booster vaccine uptake at 30 days post ED visit? considering recent national changes to funding and availability of updated vaccines, we will examine the effects of these changes on vaccine acceptance and uptake in ED populations. Latinx communities are disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with Spanish-speaking Latinx communities carrying even heavier burdens of infection, hospitalization, and mortality. Major barriers to COVID-19 testing and vaccination exist, and a profound need remains to understand and address the social, ethical, and behavioral implications (SEBI) of COVID-19 testing and vaccination within Latinx communities. Our community-academic partnership proposes a rigorous mixed-methods, community-based participatory research study to better understand the SEBI of COVID-19 testing and vaccination and to refine and test a novel and culturally congruent intervention that integrates two evidenced-based strategies - peer navigation and mHealth - to increase COVID-19 testing and vaccination within Spanish-speaking Latinx communities. The goal of this pilot study is to assess the feasibility and impact of using sodium citrate nasal spray as an adjunct to olfactory retraining in participants with long-term post-COVID-19 olfactory dysfunction. The main questions it aims to answer are: Is sodium citrate nasal spray in addition to smell retraining feasible for participants to use in terms of participant need/desire, adherence, and adverse events? Does sodium citrate nasal spray in addition to smell retraining further improve smell as compared to normal saline spray and smell retraining? Participants will: Provide consent for enrollment. Undergo smell testing via Sniffin' Sticks. Use a nasal spray (either sodium citrate or normal saline) followed by olfactory retraining twice a day for 12 weeks. Return for follow-up Sniffin' Sticks testing. Researchers will compare the sodium citrate group and the normal saline group to determine differences in smell improvement. Read Less

This phase 2 trial studies the immune response to GEO-CM04S1 (previously designated as COH04S1) compared to standard of care (SOC) mRNA SARS-COV-2 vaccine in patients with blood cancer who have received stem cell transplant or cellular therapy. GEO-CM04S1 belongs to a category called modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA) vaccines, created from a new version of MVA, called synthetic MVA. GEO-CM04S1 works by inducing immunity (the ability to recognize and fight against an infection) to SARS-CoV-2. The immune system is stimulated to produce antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 that would block the virus from entering healthy cells. The immune system also grows new disease fighting T cells that can recognize and destroy infected cells. Giving GEO-CM04S1 after cellular therapy may work better in reducing the chances of contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) or developing a severe form of COVID-19 disease in patients with blood cancer compared to SOC mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. The Hearts of Athletes study is being conducted to determine the heart involvement with COVID-19 in athletes. This study aims to enroll any Adult (18 years of age or greater) • Athlete is defined as NCAA Collegiate Athlete, Professional Athlete, Military, or Olympic Athlete will be eligible for the study. With COVID-19 • COVID-19 diagnosed via an RT-PCR (nasal or throat swab test) prior to enrollment Or without COVID-19 • Identified as a local Control participant (similar sport) to a participant with COVID-19, who is willing to undergo a standard cardiovascular evaluation Participants with and without COVID-19 will use their mobile devices to provide health information, like symptoms, by answering survey questions daily for 30 days. Also, participants will allow their de-identified cardiac images to be sent to the Duke Heart Center for blinded analysis. No physical risks are associated with this study. The goal of this clinical trial is to test an COVID-19 vaccination information video in adults with sickle cell disease. The main questions it aims to answer are why are some adults with sickle cell disease hesitant to receive COVID-19 vaccination and whether a COVID-19 vaccination information video tailored for people with sickle cell disease will reduce vaccine hesitancy. Participants will complete a brief survey before and after watching a short video with information on vaccine safety, efficacy, and the greater impact of COVID-19 infection on people with sickle cell disease. Randomized, double-blind prospective trial to test the efficacy of therapeutic, antiseptic mouth rinses to inactivate severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in saliva of COVID-19 positive patients aged 18-65 years old. All mouthrinses are commercially available and will be used according to on-label instructions. Patients will be randomized to a mouthrinse and will be asked to give a saliva sample immediately before and after a one minute mouthwash. Saliva samples will be collected from patients at 15 minute intervals thereafter up to an hour (15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes). The samples will be stored and used for real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) detection of viral SARS-CoV-2 RNA and viral infectivity assays. Patients will also complete a short-survey on the taste and experience of using the mouthwash. This study involves 150 subject participants and one, 75-90 minute visit. Read Less
