This phase III trial studies how well carvedilol works in preventing cardiac toxicity in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER)-2-positive breast cancer that has spread to other places in the body. A beta-blocker, such as carvedilol, is used to treat heart failure and high blood pressure, and it may prevent the heart from side effects of chemotherapy.

There is some preliminary information that it may protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes and other diseases. "Pentoxifylline in Diabetic Kidney Disease" is a study to bee conducted in 40 VA hospitals across the nation to determine definitively whether or not PTX can prevent worsening of kidney disease and delay death in patients with diabetic kidney disease.

Xanamem® is being developed as a potential treatment for symptomatic, early stages of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). This XanaMIA Phase 2b/3 study is to investigate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of Xanamem in in mild or moderate dementia due to AD. Bupropion may reduce cancer-related fatigue by causing changes in inflammation and stress hormones.
