The train-of-four (TOF) ratio is a quantitative measure used in anesthesia to assess the degree of neuromuscular blockade induced by neuromuscular blocking agents during surgical procedures. Current American Society of Anesthesiologists guidelines recommend monitoring the TOF ratio to guide the administration and reversal of NMBAs, with a target ratio of 0.9 or higher at adductor pollicis muscle indicating adequate reversal and restoration of neuromuscular function. This proposed study aims to observe and compare the TOF ratio between two different muscles of the hand: adductor pollicis and adductor digiti minim using anesthesia monitors on both of their arms during recovery of neuromuscular function. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of acute pain on long-term memory and conditioned physiologic responses in the presence and absence of low dose nitrous oxide. Functional magnetic resonance imaging will be used to identify the neural correlates of these phenomena. The study will occur over 2 visits and involves no long-term follow up. Read Less

This pilot study serves to assess the diagnostic adequacy of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-guided point-of-care. Focused echocardiography examinations will be obtained by Anesthesiology trainees and assessed by an expert Cardiologist Echocardiographer. AI-guided echocardiography examinations will be compared to each other. AI-guided and non-AI-guided echocardiography examinations will also be compared. Read Less

The purpose of this study is to evaluate connectivity of the FDA approved DexCom G7® continuous glucose monitor in the operating room. Continuous glucose monitors are applied to the skin and a thin sampling filament is inserted into the skin and measures blood sugar in the interstitial fluid. The DexCom G7® is used regularly outside of the operating room to monitor blood sugar, however the use of the device in the operating room environment has been limited by connectivity issues. This is a feasibility study characterizing the ability of transvaginal ultrasonography to identify the pudendal nerve. Today, the pudendal nerve block is typically accomplished through blind landmark techniques, thus limiting its success. To date, there has never been an attempt to determine if the visualization of the pudendal nerve would be possible using transvaginal ultrasound with existing technology; nor to perform this procedure transvaginally with the assistance of ultrasound. The purpose of this study is to assess and compare conditions for tracheal intubation obtained with modified time principal induction with 0.6 mg/kg rocuronium and 1 mg/kg succinylcholine. Specifically, the investigators will be evaluating ease of laryngoscopy, vocal cord view, vocal cord opening, and movement of limbs and coughing during tracheal intubation in order to assess intubation conditions, to compare efficiency and success rate of tracheal intubation between two induction agents and to determine the rate of patient awareness during induction and post-operative recall of paralysis.
