Healthy Paid Clinical Trials in South Carolina

This study will randomly assign 2,300 older adults on waiting lists at nine Meals on Wheels programs in Florida, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and California into two groups who will receive: (a) daily delivery of meals, five days a week or (b) a shipment of 10 frozen meals, every two weeks. Researchers will examine participants' Medicare claims to understand if differences in healthcare utilization occur between the two groups within six months after they start receiving meals. Researchers will also ask participants questions prior to receiving meals, and again at three months, to understand how meals impact their ability to obtain food, their feelings of loneliness, and their overall quality of life. The primary study outcome will be the ratio of days spent in institutional settings (i.e., hospital, nursing home) in the six months after participants begin receiving meals. The secondary outcomes include the ratio of days spent in institutional settings in the three months after participants begin receiving meals, food insecurity, subjective isolation/loneliness, and health-related quality of life. The purposes of this research study are to investigate closed-loop and personalized focused ultrasound as a technique to study how the brain works and to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Attune ATTN201 device. This study will objectively assess brain parenchyma morphology, and neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological function, following Transcranial Focused Ultrasound (tFUS) exposure. Electroencephalographic recordings during parametric sweeps will be obtained for observation of changes in the brain network activity, primarily focused on the Central Medial Thalamus (CMT). The CMT maintains strong network connectivity to the cortex and plays a potent role in sleep induction. tFUS has recently emerged as a powerful tool for targeted deep brain neuromodulation and has, in theory, the ability to modulate the activity of the CMT without affecting overlying tissue. This project aims to assess the effectiveness of using a Respiratory Muscle Training (RMT) device during high-intensity functional training (HIFT) to improve fitness and ventilatory parameters. Primary outcome measures include aerobic, anaerobic, and HIFT measures. Secondary measures include sleep, affect, and mood state questionnaires. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity an investigational messenger ribonucleic acid (mRN)A vaccine for the prevention of lower respiratory tract disease (LRTD) caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and/or human metapneumovirus (hMPV) in older adults. A single intramuscular (IM) injection of 3 to 4 different doses of the RSV/hMPV mRNA vaccine candidate formulated with 2 different lipid nanoparticles (LNP) will be administered to healthy participants aged 18 to 49 years and 60 years and older. Aim: Evaluate whether sonicating the Nucleus Accumbens (NAc) with transcranial focused ultrasound modifies functional connectivity between the NAc and the prefrontal cortex (PFC). In this single visit, open-label pilot trial, we plan to evaluate whether transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS), delivered to the nucleus accumbens (NAc) within the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner will impact resting state functional connectivity between the NAc and functionally connected brain regions like the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in up to 10 healthy individuals. HYPOTHESIS : tFUS will reduce prefrontal cortex (PFC)-NAc functional connectivity, in healthy individuals. Sometimes, it is necessary to re-learn a previously learned movement behavior, for example, a bad posture during the golf drive or while playing the piano. Unlearning or relearning an intensively trained behavior is particularly important if the behavior is hampering recovery, for example, in chronic pain or after a stroke. With this pilot study, the brain mechanisms that control the change of pre-existing stable memories of a motor skill will be tested with electroencephalography (EEG). Non-invasive brain stimulation will be used to modulate these brain mechanisms and test if it is possible to change the pre-existing motor memory and the learning of a new motor skill. Read Less

The investigators will conduct a full dissemination and implementation study using a type 2 hybrid effectiveness-implementation design. The investigators will conduct this study in the community and work with two vegan soul food restaurants. The investigators propose to examine the effectiveness and implementation of community-delivered, 3-month NEW Soul program among participants (N=228). Using a randomized design, the investigators will assess effectiveness of two delivery approaches: (1) In-person, live weekly classes with restaurant vouchers (intervention) or (2) restaurant voucher-only (active control). The investigators will also conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis of delivering the online intervention plus voucher vs. voucher-only with the outcome of cost/change in weight, healthy eating index, and quality adjusted life year.
