RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as gemcitabine hydrochloride and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Pemetrexed disodium and celecoxib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known whether giving gemcitabine hydrochloride or pemetrexed disodium together with carboplatin is more effective with or without celecoxib in treating non-small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying gemcitabine hydrochloride, pemetrexed disodium, and carboplatin to compare how well they work when given together with celecoxib or a placebo in treating patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. This phase II trial studies the side effects of giving intensity-modulated radiation therapy together with cisplatin and bevacizumab followed by carboplatin and cisplatin and to see how well they work in treating patients who have undergone surgery for high-risk endometrial cancer. Specialized radiation therapy that delivers a high dose of radiation directly to the tumor may kill more tumor cells and cause less damage to normal tissue. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, carboplatin, and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving a chemotherapy drug before surgery may shrink the tumor so that it is no longer present by conventional imaging and tumor markers from serum and cerebrospinal fluid. PURPOSE: This Phase II trial is studying how well neoadjuvant chemotherapy with or without surgery and with or without high dose chemotherapy and peripheral stem cell transplantation, can increase response rates prior to radiation therapy and increase progression free and overall surviving patients with newly diagnosed intracranial germ cell tumors. This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will evaluate the efficacy and safety of carboplatin/paclitaxel and carboplatin/paclitaxel/bevacizumab with and without pictilisib in particpants with previously untreated advanced or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Particpants will be randomized to receive 4 cycles of carboplatin (C)/paclitaxel (P) and either pictilisib or placebo, with (participants with non-squamous NSCLC) or without (participants with squamous NSCLC) bevacizumab (B). Anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression or intolerable toxicity occurs. Participants in placebo arms with disease progression may cross over to open-label active pictilisib.
