This is a pilot study to evaluate pain responses from two different approved medications (ketamine and fentanyl) in the treatment of pain after rattlesnake envenomation (RSE). Both medications are currently used in standard practice to treat both acute and chronic pain and are options for pain management after RSE. Multiple studies exist showing ketamine to be both safe and effective for the treatment of acute pain, and to be as good as or better than opioids for this indication. The specific co... This study will assess the efficacy, safety, and acceptability of adjunctive IN ESK in comparison to ARI, one of the best studied and most widely used adjunctive therapies for TRD. The primary hypothesis is that participants receiving adjunctive IN ESK will be s... Read More

Opioid medications such as morphine, hydrocodone and oxycodone are standard for treating pain after surgery, however there are disadvantages. Because of the way opioids work, gastric bypass patients may have an increased risk of having sedation or problems with breathing. In patients with sleep apnea, opioids may increase the risk of severe apnea.
Ketamine is an alternative pain medicine that can be used to treat pain after surgery and may have fewer effects on breathing. Using ketamine as part... Read More

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the sedative, and analgesic effects of intranasal (IN) Dexmedetomidine (DEX) in children presenting to a Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) who undergo conscious sedation for reduction of closed distal forearm fractures when compared to those receiving intravenous (IV) Ketamine. The secondary objective is to compare each sedation technique for safety and procedural outcomes.
