Effect of Ketamine and Etomidate During RSI on Long Term Outcomes
Enrolling By Invitation
The RSI-LTO study collects long-term outcomes from the RSI trial (NCT05277896). One-third of adults who are intubated in the ED or ICU experience symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a psychiatric disorder triggered by a "shocking, scary, or dangerous event." Critical illness, tracheal intubation, and mechanical ventilation can be traumatic and distressing events. Patients may recall the intubation procedure, the feeling of the breathing tube in their throat, or being unable... Read More

Randomized Trial of Sedative Choice for Intubation

Among critically ill adults undergoing emergency tracheal intubation, one in five experience hypotension, cardiac arrest, or death. The sedatives used to rapidly induce anesthesia for emergency tracheal intubation have been hypothesized to effect cardiovascular complications and patient outcomes, but the optimal sedative medication for intubation of critically ill adults remains unknown. Ketamine and etomidate are the two most commonly used sedatives during intubation of critically ill adults. D... Read More

Inpatient Single Dose Interventions for Alcohol Use Disorder
Completed
Every year, alcohol use disorder (AUD) generates millions of emergency department (ED) visits and hospital admissions, costing the U.S. health sector over $90 billion. These hospital admissions are critical opportunities to start patients on addiction pharmacotherapy, but factors like medication non-adherence and post-discharge relapse contribute to frequent re-admissions. Two single-dose interventions are well suited to facilitate treatment retention and prevent re-admissions due to their prolo... Read More

Pharmacokinetics of Ketamine in Infants and Children
Completed
Dosing of medications is based on the plasma level achieved with a given dose and how long the medicine remains in the body. This study is called pharmacokinetics-that is, what the body does to the medication. Ketamine is an intravenous medication used for anesthesia and sedation in children. However the pharmacokinetics of Ketamine has not been systematically studied. We propose to study the pharmacokinetics of ketamine in different age groups of children ranging from infants to teenagers.
