The state of Virginia currently has 9 active clinical trials seeking participants for Parkinson's Disease research studies. These trials are conducted in various cities, including Richmond, Charlottesville, Norfolk and Fairfax.
A Study to Assess the Safety of BIIB122 Tablets and if it Can Slow the Worsening of Early-Stage Parkinson's Disease in Participants Between the Ages of 30 and 80
Recruiting
In this study, researchers will learn more about a study drug called BIIB122 in participants with early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD). In this study: * Participants will take 225 milligrams (mg) of BIIB122 or a placebo as tablets by mouth. A placebo looks like the study drug but has no real medicine in it. * Participants will take BIIB122 or placebo 1 time a day for up to a minimum of 48 weeks and a maximum of 144 weeks. * Certain medications for PD will be allowed at enrollment for a subset o... Registry of Deep Brain Stimulation With the VERCISE™ System: Vercise DBS Registry
Recruiting
The purpose of this registry is to compile characteristics of world-wide outcomes for the use of Boston Scientific's commercially available Vercise DBS System in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The utilization of Image Guided Programming (IGP), and other commercially available programming features, used as planning tools for the programming of patients with Boston Scientific's Vercise DBS System are also evaluated. Additionally, the utilization of the DBS Illumina 3D feature that may be... Read More

Visualization of the STN and GPi for DBS
Recruiting
The purpose of the study is to determine if using SIS System for DBS planning results in less distance between the planned target location and the actual implanted lead location than DBS planning without SIS System.

Feasibility and Safety of a Portable Exoskeleton to Improve Mobility in Parkinson's Disease
Recruiting
Physical therapy approaches for balance and walking deficits in Parkinson's disease (PD) have limited effectiveness, with mostly short-lasting benefits. An exoskeleton is a device that straps to the legs and provides a passive force to assist people to better ambulate. The goal of this study is to establish the feasibility and safety of a lightweight exoskeleton on mobility and fall reduction in people with PD. As most PD patients eventually require assistive mobility devices, the exoskeleton re... Read More

Lenrispodun as Adjunctive Therapy in the Treatment of Patients With Motor Fluctuations Due to Parkinson's Disease
Recruiting
This is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, fixed-dose study in patients with a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease consistent with the UK Parkinson's Disease Society (UKPDS) Brain Bank diagnostic criteria, who are experiencing wearing off symptoms and levodopa-induced dyskinesia.

Pimavanserin vs. Quetiapine for Treatment of Parkinson's Psychosis
Recruiting
Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) sometimes experience symptoms affecting their movement, such as slowness, tremor, stiffness, and balance or walking problems. Many patients also have other symptoms not related to movement, called non-motor symptoms, which may affect one's mood or emotions, memory or thinking, or cause one to see or hear things that aren't real (hallucinations) or believe things that aren't true (delusions). Hallucinations or delusions, together called psychosis, occur in u... Read More

Dipraglurant (ADX48621) for the Treatment of Patients With Parkinson's Disease Receiving Levodopa-based Therapy
Recruiting
This study is designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of dipraglurant in PD patients with dyskinesia (randomized 1:1 to receive active or placebo) for 12 weeks (1 week at 150 mg per day and 11 weeks at 300 mg per day). The primary efficacy assessment will be based on the Unified Dyskinesia Rating Scale (UDysRS). Patients who complete the 12-week blinded treatment period may have the option to roll into an open-label safety extension study for an additional 12-month treatment period.

Self-Reports of Executive Functions in Persons With Parkinson's Disease and Their Significant Others
Recruiting
The investigators are conducting a study to compare the self-reports of executive functions (that is to say, what role cognitive processes such as working memory and attention) in persons with Parkinson's Disease to the reports of executive functions completed by their significant others. To conduct this study, the investigators need the participation of persons who are diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and their significant others.
