The overall purpose of the study is to test the effect of Noom on exercise and diet advice in adults with type 2 diabetes. The overarching hypothesis is that the use of Noom may promote better dietary adherence during an exercise program, thereby promoting greater weight loss and cardiometabolic health compared to lifestyle advice only. In particular, the investigators anticipate that changes in metabolic and vascular insulin sensitivity will correlate with glycemic control and blood pressure changes. Read Less

The overall objective of this study it to use Positron Emission Tomography (PET) brain imaging and a radiotracer that measures the epigenetic marker Histone Deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) to examine HDAC6 expression in people with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), or concurrent PTSD and AUD with control groups. While there are a large number of studies conducted in preclinical stress and addiction models, these findings have not been translated to people living with these disorders. The SATURN trial aims to determine whether continuation vs. discontinuation of statin drugs after spontaneous lobar intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the best strategy; and whether the decision to continue/discontinue statins should be influenced by an individual's Apolipoprotein-E (APOE) genotype. An MRI ancillary study (SATURN MRI), in a subset of SATURN participants , will evaluate the effects of continuation vs. discontinuation of statin drugs on hemorrhagic and ischemic MRI markers of cerebral small vessel disease, and whether the presence/burden of hemorrhagic markers (i.e. cerebral microbleeds and/or cortical superficial siderosis) on baseline MRI influences the risk of ICH recurrence on/off statin therapy. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Aging is the primary risk factor for CVD, in large part due to adverse modifications to the arteries. These modifications include vascular endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness. Vascular endothelial dysfunction is an initiating step in atherosclerosis, and is primarily caused by reduced nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability secondary to excessive superoxide-driven oxidative stress and inflammation. Endothelial dysfunction leads to arterial stiffness and the development of hypertension (HTN) which further increases CVD. Greater than 2/3 of the US population has elevated blood pressure or stage 1-HTN. As such, interventions that improve vascular endothelial dysfunction by increasing NO bioavailability and mitigating excessive oxidative stress and inflammation are needed. Blueberries are rich in bioactive compounds including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and pterostilbene. These compounds and their metabolites have been shown to attenuate oxidative stress and inflammation. The primary goal of this study is to assess the efficacy of blueberries to improve reduce blood pressure and improve vascular endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness in middle-aged/older men with elevated blood pressure or stage 1-HTN. The multilevel socio-ecological barriers to physical activity experienced by people with physical disabilities cut across structures and systems, community, institutions and organizations, interpersonal, and individual levels. Several studies have attempted to understand these barriers and facilitators, but to date, no study or system has attempted to systematically resolve these multilevel barriers and capitalize on the potential facilitators that can increase access to exercise and recreation programs, services and facilities for people with disabilities. In RecTech's previous cycle of funding, this void was addressed in a Proof of Concept product called the Activity Inclusion Mapping System (AIMS). AIMS enabled people with disabilities to quickly and precisely identify accessible and usable community-based physical activity resources and services. Based on the positive feedback received at the annual RESNA conference and from our Consumer Research Advisory Committee (CRAC) during preparation of this application, the investigators propose to develop an innovative person-centered geotagged Social Networking System (SNS) based on the social-ecological model of health. The focus of this proposed Proof of Product project is to address multilevel barriers and facilitators associated with community-based leisure time physical activity (LTPA) using crowdsourcing principles for gathering data.
